In this study, an augmented reality (AR) e-commerce system was developed and a usability study was conducted to compare the AR e-commerce system with the traditional e-commerce system. The AR e-commerce system was developed as an Internet plug-in, which can be accessed with different computers. Study results show that the AR e-commerce system can provide more information and more direct experiences to online customers, by combining physical environment information with virtual product models. Online shoppers can “test use” products while shopping online and acquire more information about the products. Thus, customers can make better purchasing decisions and have a better chance to purchase the “right” products.

Background: Chronic subdural hematomas (CSDHs) mainly occur in elderly people and usually develop after minor head injuries. CSDH can be cured by a relatively simple burr hole surgery. Rarely reported, hemorrhagic postsurgical complications include subarachnoid, intracerebral, intraventricular, and remote cerebellar hemorrhages. The causes of such uncommon complications are difficult to explain and remain poorly understood. Case Description: We report the case study of an 89-year-old man with CSDH who presented with the right hemiparesis. He underwent burr hole surgery with a closed-drainage system. A computed tomography (CT) scan conducted the following day demonstrated an acute intraventricular hemorrhage and hyperperfusion of the ipsilateral hemisphere. Conclusion: This is a rare case of an acute hematoma in the ventricle following drainage of a CSDH. The likely mechanism of this intraventricular hemorrhage could be that the drainage of the hematoma produced a movement of the ventricle and hemisphere accompanied by hyperperfusion.

The use of collaborative robots (cobots) in industrial and academic settings facilitates physical and cognitive interaction with operators. This framework is a challenge to determine how measures on concepts, such as usability, can be adapted to these new environments. Usability is a quality attribute prevalent in the field of human-computer interaction concerning the context of use and the measure of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction of products and systems. In this work, the importance of the role of benchmarking usability with collaborative robots is discussed. The introduced approach is part of a general methodology for studying people and robots’ performance in collaboration. It is being designed and developed on a concrete experience into a human-robot collaborative workspace. Outcomes from the study include a list of steps, resources, recommendations, and some customized questionnaires to obtain cobot-oriented usability analysis and case study results.

The purpose of this paper was to conduct an investigation on criteria of Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP)/Customer Relations Management (CRM) systems selection used by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Poland. The main goal was to define the key selection criteria that should be used to ensure the optimal decision of the purchase of the system. The reason for the choice of this research question was that SMEs have to constantly struggle with lack of resources. The choice of the right ERP and/or CRM system can significantly improve their operational efficiency and competitiveness. A synthetic review of the literature on the selection criteria of ERP and/or CRM systems was conducted and presented. Opinions of 83 respondents with work experience in SMEs that had undergone an implementation of an ERP and/or CRM system or vendors of ERP and/or CRM systems for SMEs in Poland were collected in the form of Google Form surveys and analyzed with the use of Spearman’s rank order correlation. The main conclusion of this study is that two most important selection criteria are: system functionality and the ability to ensure data security. The study results may be of practical use for SMEs’ decision-makers for the selection of the CRM and/or ERP class system. A further and more comprehensive research into the topic is recommended.

In response to Islamic-inspired terrorism and the growing trend of foreign fighters, European governments are increasingly relying on citizenship deprivation as a security tool. This paper will focus on the question of how the fundamental rights of individuals deprived of their citizenship are affected and which protection is offered for them by the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (‘ECHR’). In many countries, these new and broader deprivation powers were left unaccompanied by stronger (procedural) safeguards that protect the human rights they might affect. Unlike the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the ECHR does not provide for an explicit right to citizenship. The question therefore rises what protection, if any, is offered by the ECHRsystem against citizenship deprivation and for the right to citizenship. Through a case study of the Belgian measure of citizenship deprivation, the (implicit) protection provided by the Convention-system is demonstrated.

This case study gives the results a usability study for the discovery tool Encore Synergy, an Innovative Interfaces product, launched at Appalachian State University Belk Library & Information Commons in January 2013. Nine of the thirteen participants in the study rated the discovery tool as more user friendly, according to a SUS (Standard Usability Scale) score, than the library’s tabbed search layout, which separated the articles and catalog search. All of the study’s participants were in favor of switching the interface to the new “one box” search. Several glitches in the implementation were noted and reported to the vendor. The study results have helped develop Belk library training materials and curricula. The study will also serve as a benchmark for further usability testing of Encore and Appalachian State Library’s website. This article will be of interest to libraries using Encore Discovery Service, investigating discovery tools, or performing usability studies of other discovery services.

For realizing energy conservation and burdening optimization of sintering process in iron and steel enterprises, as to the predictive issues of energy consumption and performance indices, the Support Vector Machine for Regression (ε-SVR) was introduced into sintering production system. A general modeling mode was proposed and the predictive model of energy consumption and several performances like chemical compositions was established by history data of sintering. Then, this model was compared with several other methods such as multiple linear regressions, ELM, BPNN and RBFN in a case study. Results show that the ε-SVR method can achieve qualified prediction results rapidly with the best accuracy and time efficiency.
