In 1971, Lin showed a physical theory of plasticity which seems to represent the actual mechanism of plasticity better than other theories. Since then, much work has been done to improve this theory and to extend this theory to creep. This improved and extended theory is reviewed and given here. Some differences between the present theory and the self consistent theory are discussed. Present theory satisfies the conditions of equilibrium, continuity of displacement and the dependency of slip on the resolved shear stress throughout the polycrystal. The calculated results agree well with most experiments.

In order to understand the self-consistent theory of dyons, we have undertaken the study of octonion analysis of generalized Dirac–Maxwell's (GDM) equations of dyons in isotropic medium and chiral medium. Consequently, we have developed the octonion forms of potential, field and current equation of dyons in simple and compact manner in homogeneous or isotropic medium. It is emphasized that the corresponding quantum equations are invariant under Lorentz and duality transformations. Furthermore, the generalized electrodynamics of dyons in chiral medium has also been discussed in terms of simple, compact and consistent octonion analysis. It is shown that in the absence of chiral parameter the theory of dyons reduces to that for homogeneous (isotropic) medium. The generalized theory of dyons in chiral medium thus reproduces the field equation of moving charge particle-like electron (monopole) in the absence of monopole (electron) in vacuum if we consider neither chiral nor isotropic medium parameters therein.

Motivated by recent advances in direct statistical simulation (DSS) of astrophysical phenomena such as out-of-equilibrium jets, we perform a direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the helical magnetorotational instability (HMRI) under the generalised quasilinear approximation (GQL). This approximation generalises the quasilinear approximation (QL) to include the self-consistent interaction of large-scale modes, interpolating between fully nonlinear DNS and QL DNS whilst still remaining formally linear in the small scales. In this paper we address whether GQL can more accurately describe low-order statistics of axisymmetric HMRI when compared with QL by performing DNS under various degrees of GQL approximation. We utilise various diagnostics, such as energy spectra in addition to first and second cumulants, for calculations performed for a range of Reynolds and Hartmann numbers (describing rotation and imposed magnetic field strength respectively). We find that GQL performs significantly better than QL in describing the statistics of the HMRI even when relatively few large-scale modes are kept in the formalism. We conclude that DSS based on GQL (GCE2) will be significantly more accurate than that based on QL (CE2).

Recent results of the description of quadrupole moments of odd semi-magic nuclei are briefly reviewed. They are based on the self-consistent theory of finite Fermi systems with account for the phonon-particle coupling (PC) effects. The self-consistent model for describing the PC effects was developed previously for magnetic moments. Account for the non-pole diagrams is an important ingredient of this model. In addition to previously reported results for the odd In and Sb isotopes, which are the proton-odd neighbors of even tin nuclei, we present new results for odd Bi isotopes, the odd neighbors of even lead isotopes. In general, account for the PC corrections makes the agreement with the experimental data significantly better.
