The main purpose of this paper is to present some data on the mechanical and physical properties of compacted-vermicular graphite cast iron and to give a reasonable interpretation to the characteristics by using numerical indexes indicating the shape of graphite flakes in the structure. After describing the preparation of the material and a new method for measuring thermal diffusivity of the iron, the influence of kind and amount of alloy added for treatment and of cooling rate upon the graphite shape is discussed by using the indexes of the structure. The thermal diffusivities and mechanical characteristics such as tensile strength and hardness are shown as functions of the indexes to clarify the relationship between them. Furthermore, the present indexes are compared with those proposed earlier to find which is most suitable for the cast iron treated in this work. Authors propose a definition of compacted-vermicular graphite cast iron, which is reasonable from the physico-mechanical point of view, and also show some typical mechanical properties and measures required to produce such cast iron with desirable features.

ABSTRACTThe effects of composition and process variables on the tensile strength of flake graphite cast iron are well established. However, when compared with most metallic materials, there is little quantitative understanding of the way in which the microstructure controls the mechanical properties. In this paper a fracture mechanics approach is used to develop a mechanistic interpretation of the relationship between the microstructure and tensile strength. Flake graphite cast irons have been studied in which matrix microstructures of pearlite, ferrite and tempered martensite have been developed by heat treatment. For a given eutectic cell size, a linear relationship exists between the tensile strength and the fracture toughness KIC, for all of the matrix structures studied. The tensile strength is interpreted as a brittle fracture stress which is determined by the fracture toughness of the iron and an inherent defect size which is defined by the eutectic cell size.

Introduction. The mechanical properties of the metal depend primarily on their chemical composition and structure. The structure of metal materials is formed under the influence of different temperature modes of manufacture and cooling. Models for predicting the mechanical properties of steels and cast irons are based on the influence of chemical composition and structure. The paper considers an approach that allows to evaluate the mechanical properties of rolling (C) cast iron rolls with a pearlitic (P) matrix depending on the complex influence of the elements of their chemical composition. Materials and methods. The working area of СПХН roll cast iron samples from the surface up to 50 mm doped with chromium (X) and nickel (H) was investigated. The carbide content varied from 10 to 15 %; and lamellar graphite did not exceed 2 %. The results of the experiment. In the work for modeling the mechanical characteristics of cast iron rolls used the method of planning experiments. The choice of this technique is due to the multi-parameter technology of production of solid metal casting. The application of this technique allowed to obtain models for predicting the mechanical characteristics of roll cast iron SPHN depending on the influence of the elements of the chemical composition of the rolls (C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cr, Ni). The error in predicting the tensile strength sВ, bending strength sзгин bending and hardness according to the Shore HSD method did not exceed 5,89 %. When checking the models for convergence of results by Fisher's criterion at a critical value of Fcrit = 2,400 for sВ, this coefficient was 1,249; for sзгин fold was 1,289 and for HSD - 1,012. To analyze the effect of carbon on mechanical characteristics, two-dimensional dependence plots are constructed. Conclusions. Within the operating values of the parameters of the chemical composition of cast iron rolling mills СПХН-45 in accordance with existing regulations, a forecast of their mechanical characteristics within the allowable limits of error of experimental data. The results of the work allow to obtain mathematical models in the process of production of rolls of the СПХН brand to quickly establish their chemical composition within the standard technology in accordance with the customer's requirements for these mechanical characteristics. In addition, the obtained models can predict these characteristics of the manufactured rolls with minimal material and time costs. Термин «фольклоризм» используется в различных сферах культуры, а в этой статье мы будем рассматривать в литературе. Несмотря на то, что на протяжении многих лет этот вопрос изучается литературоведами, фольклористами, все -таки нет единого теоретического определения понятия. Feasibility of semisolid forging of cast iron using rapid resistance heating was experimentally investigated. Gray pig iron FC250 and spheroidal graphite cast iron FCD600, whose carbon equivalents are both 4.3% in mass, were used for the experiments. Since these cast irons have a narrow semisolid temperature range, an AC power supply with an input electric energy control function was used. In this study, the resistance heating characteristics of the cast irons were firstly examined, and then their semisolid forging experiments were conducted. In the forging experiments, the conditions of the forgings such as microstructures and hardness properties were examined, and the feasibility of the semisolid forging of cast iron using resistance heating was discussed. As a result, it was found that the method presented here is highly feasible.

Physical and mechanical properties of the polymeric sand used as floor covering in cattle stalls were investigated. Samples of the polymeric sand were tested under static and dynamic stress, an impact test was done, mechanical characteristics were measured, and the material structural efficiency was evaluated. The polymeric sand tile appeared strong, reliable and durable material. The study material exhibited viscoelasticity. The polymeric sand samples demonstrated impact viscosity in the range 242,3– 548,3 kJ/m2 . The figure was 3,5–13,7 times higher than that of gray cast iron and was comparable with some classes of carbon structural steel. Mechanical properties of the polymeric sand were analysed. The characteristics revealed in the analysis can be used in dimensioning and designing products made from polymeric sand under various strength indices.

The specific character of reproducing and maintaining the quality and productivity of technical resources is considered from the point of view of their economic essence and economic behavior in the production process. The views of domestic and foreign scientists are analyzed regarding the subject-functional and monetary definition of the enterprises’ capital, а part of which is the cost of technical resources. Understanding the properties of technical resources as a part of the enterprise total capital allowed identifying the basic statements. The relationship between the reproduction of technical resources and their total value in the process of functioning, namely the turnover and transition of their monetary equivalent to the material equivalent and vice versa has been shown. The steps of movement of the technical resources monetary equivalent are presented and considered in three stages: formation of the stage, at which the enterprise money capital is transformed into technical resources; the stage of technical resources production use and that of resources conversion into monetary form in the process of which the relationship between the state of technical resources capabilities and their cost characteristics changes. The character of economic transformations in the process of movement is described; the method of creating and adding cash flow formed by technical resource, to the money capital of the enterprise is considered. It has been proposed to use a linear rate depreciation accounting, from the beginning of the technical resources acquisition and throughout useful life using of the capital discount rate, in order to prevent partial loss of value of the initial capital invested in technical resources. It has been shown that the use of technical resources is expedient until the value of the monetary product is equal to their discounted price. The research pursued showed that for timely innovative reproduction of technical resources as part of the enterprise capital cost, these resources must perform the main function – that of forming additional value (additional profit).

This paper analyzes the relationship between virtual manufacturing (VM) and digital factory (DF), in order to distinguish the two concepts. Based on the thought of PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), compare with the definition of VM, the paper gives the definition of DF, and analyzes the category and system characteristics of DF from narrow and broad point of view. The structural relationship and operation mechanisms of VM, narrow sense DF and broad sense DF are analyzed from the perspective of functional integration. During the phase of system implementation, from the perspectives of key technologies, implementation contents, implementation characteristics and important objectives, the characteristics of the three modes of production are summarized, the conclusion of system implementation under the condition of existing technology is obtained, and the potential application of narrow sense DF is researched.

Microstructural adaptation of cast iron alloys by inoculation is a well-known practice to swell their mechanical properties. In foundries, several inoculants have been used to refine grain structure, and to obtain uniform distribution of graphite flakes. Inoculation is one of the most critical steps in cast iron production. The effectiveness of inoculants depends on melt temperature, method of addition, type of inoculants, and holding time. In this paper, the effect of Ca-based, Ba-based, Ca-Ba based and Sr-based inoculants on microstructure and tensile properties of grey cast iron IS-210 and spheroidal graphite iron IS-1862 is reported. Results showed both Ca and Ba based inoculants were effective in obtaining uniform distribution of flaky and nodular graphite in IS-210, and IS-1862 cast irons, respectively. But in a case of Sr-based inoculant were highly effective for increase the nodularity of SG cast iron as well as succeed supreme yield strength for both grey and ductile cast iron. The amounts of ferrite in the as-cast matrix are excess with controlled granulometry for elimination of primary carbide in Sr-based inoculant.

The increase of the strength of gray cast iron is mainly depended on alloying. However, with the improvement of strength, its processing performance will always decrease. So three different gray cast irons are studied in this experiment, including adding 0.1% Nb elements, adding 0.2% Nb elements and adding 0.3% Nb elements, to investigate the Nbs effect to the mechanical performance of gray cast iron, we adopt Dynamic Strain Amplifier to measure cutting force to evaluate processing performance, use Optical Microscope and Electron Microscopy observe each samples organization, explains the relationship between Nbs content and the mechanical and processing performance of gray cast iron from micro-level. Finally, we draw the conclusion: when the Nb comes to 0.3 percent, the appearance of E-type graphite and Nb carbide durum granular will greatly decrease its processing performance.
