A Geometric Interpretation of Finite Screw Systems Using the Bisecting Linear Line Complex

This paper uses the concept of bisecting linear line complex of the two position theory in kinematics to present a geometric foundation for finite displacement screw systems, with an emphasis on incompletely specified displacement of points. It is shown that the bisecting linear line complex arising from the finite displacement of points is subject to a reciprocal condition if a specific definition of pitch of finite screws is used. The screw systems of finite displacements are then characterized in terms of intersections of bisecting linear line complexes. The line varieties corresponding to the two-system and four-system associated with finite displacements of two points and a point, respectively, are illustrated. This paper demonstrates that the bisecting linear line complex provides a geometric framework for studying finite and infinitesimal kinematics.

This paper unveils line-geometric foundations of finite displacement screw systems, with an emphasis on incompletely specified displacement of points. Linear line complexes are basic entities used in this research. Bisecting linear line complexes arising from finite displacements are proved to be subject to a reciprocal condition if a new definition of pitch of finite screws is defined. This definition was the one used to formulate finite screw systems. The relations among intersections of linear line complexes, screw systems, and varieties of lines are established in order to investigate finite screw systems. A novel treatment of point displacements allows us to visualize finite screw systems when they are formed by intersecting linear line complexes. This paper provides geometric insights into finite displacement screws and presents a new framework for the unification of finite and infinitesimal kinematics.

AbstractIsomorphism detection is fundamental to the synthesis and innovative design of kinematic chains (KCs). The detection can be performed accurately by using the similarity of KCs. However, there are very few works on isomorphism detection based on the properties of similar vertices. In this paper, an ameliorated multi-order adjacent vertex assignment sequence (AMAVS) method is proposed to seek out similar vertices and identify the isomorphism of the planar KCs. First, the specific definition of AMAVS is described. Through the calculation of the AMAVS, the adjacent vertex value sequence reflecting the uniqueness of the topology features is established. Based on the value sequence, all possible similar vertices, corresponding relations, and isomorphism discrimination can be realized. By checking the topological graph of KCs with a different number of links, the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method are verified. Finally, the method is employed to implement the similar vertices and isomorphism detection of all the 9-link 2-DOF(degree of freedom) planar KCs.

This paper investigates, via numerical simulations, the finite displacements of all the known Bennett-based 6R overconstrained linkages: Goldberg’s 6R, variant Goldberg 6R, Waldron’s hybrid 6R, and Wohlhart’s hybrid 6R linkages. An investigation of the finite displacements of nine distinct linkages reveals that every Bennett-based 6R linkage, except for the isomerization of Wohlhart’s hybrid linkage, inherits the linear properties of the Bennett mechanism. The relative finite displacement screws of some non-adjacent links of these linkages form screw systems of the second order. Thirty-one screw systems are reported in this paper. Abstract City diplomacy is a fairly new topic in the study of diplomacy, and, many would argue, a fairly recent empirical phenomenon. A counterpoint to this could be to reference how the alleged origin of diplomacy in Greek antiquity was city-centered, as were the earliest forms of Renaissance diplomacy in Italy. In this essay we want to probe the connections between cities and diplomacy through problematizing what has counted as diplomacy. Our starting point is that cities have always mattered to what we could analytically refer to as diplomatic practice. Being conscious of the conceptual ambiguities, we are thus not starting from a specific definition of “city diplomacy,” but from a conviction that cities have mattered and continue to matter to the practice of diplomacy.

In 2004, Pachter and Speyer introduced the higher dissimilarity maps for phylogenetic trees and asked two important questions about their relation to the tropical Grassmannian. Multiple authors, using independent methods, answered affirmatively the first of these questions, showing that dissimilarity vectors lie on the tropical Grassmannian, but the second question, whether the set of dissimilarity vectors forms a tropical subvariety, remained opened. We resolve this question by showing that the tropical balancing condition fails. However, by replacing the definition of the dissimilarity map with a weighted variant, we show that weighted dissimilarity vectors form a tropical subvariety of the tropical Grassmannian in exactly the way that Pachter and Speyer envisioned. Moreover, we provide a geometric interpretation in terms of configurations of points on rational normal curves and construct a finite tropical basis that yields an explicit characterization of weighted dissimilarity vectors.

Educating for Sustainability involves promoting sustainable competences in students. Not in vain, wider societal changes that ensure a balance between economic growth, respect for the environment and social justice must start with individual actions, implying knowledge, capacity and willingness to act. However, and although there is wide consensus that education should promote the development of competences for life, putting this theoretical tenet into may entail more problems. Competence is most often expressed in general terms without a specific definition of the intervening elements (knowledge, skills, values, attitudes), which may collide with the necessity of teachers – as learning planners - concrete entities on which to base their process of design. So that, in this work we propose a series of indicators that serve to characterize the four dimensions of scientific competence – contents of science, contents about science, value of science and utility of science-. Although they are primarily intended to be used to filter multimedia resources in an educational platform, this proposal of indicators can be extrapolated to the management and selection of a variety of resources and activities, and for sharing the objectives and evidences for the acquisition of competencies.

In the current conditions of decentralization and voluntary community integration, there is a need for a comprehensive, up-to-date, and high-quality study of their resource potential, distribution, and prospects for future community development. The most pressing issue for communities is the issue of the specific definition of their boundaries, planning, use, and protection of land, especially with regard to the authority to dispose of land resources outside the settlement. The article analyzes the constitutional basis of the administrative-territorial system and local self-government in Ukraine, the basic legislation, and the peculiarities of its application in the conditions of change. It is established that in the absence of the adoption of relevant laws, changes to existing ones, the incompleteness of implementation of measures on decentralization of power, untimely resolution of problems arising in the process of implementation of land management reform within the jurisdiction of local councils, the process of reforming local self-government is hampered.

Intersubjectivity is the central concept of the relational paradigm, the most widely employed in contemporary psychoanalysis. Yet we do not have a clear definition of it. Usually it is synonymous with “the interpersonal” and thus indicates the interaction that takes place between two already constituted subjects. In this sense it has little to do with the radical social theory of subjectivation suggested by the term, at least originally, in Husserl’s philosophy. In the original meaning of intersubjectivity, as handed down by Husserl and later developed by Merleau-Ponty, the binary opposition between subjectivity and intersubjectivity is dissolved and transformed into a dialectic relationship. To formulate a clear and distinct, but above all specific, definition of intersubjectivity, we need to reclaim this intuition and translate it into coherent principles of technique. It is also essential to verify whether the models of psychoanalysis proffered as intersubjective actually satisfy this parameter. On the basis of these two simple principles, the variants of psychoanalysis that are labeled intersubjective can be placed along a continuum. Examples are given of “weak” and “strong” intersubjectivity. Paradigmatic of the latter pole is the post-Bionian theory of the analytic field.

The authors propose a working definition of stigmatization towards ex-combatants from organized armed groups outside the law in Colombia's internal conflict and empirically validate a questionnaire to assess stigmatization. First, they offer a brief review of different concepts of stigmatization, mainly stemming from psychology and sociology. Second, based on the previous review, they will offer a specific definition of stigmatization directed towards ex-combatants in the Colombian internal conflict. This definition encompasses social distance, label attribution, and emotional reactions towards the stigmatized group. Further, they present the validated scale to measure these attitudes in a non-representative sample of 289 people in 34 Colombian counties. Finally, they describe the psychometric properties of this scale as a way to measure stigmatization against ex-combatants in the Colombian internal conflict to be used in interventions aimed at attenuating this stigmatization and favoring their return to civilian society.
