This paper presents an overview of a finite-element-method (FEM) approach for the calculation of the dynamic stiffness of circular, externally pressurized gas thrust bearings with a nonuniform clearance. Some observations are made about the characteristic behavior of gas bearings subject to dynamic loading. The primary emphasis of this paper, however, is the development and qualification of a test apparatus and the necessary test techniques for measuring dynamic stiffness up to 250 N/μm at frequencies up to 2000 Hz. A thorough, experimental verification of the FEM model is reserved for a later paper.

Due to business development, a Shipyard Co., Ltd. in Guangdong planned to remould a double girder gantry crane of MG32/10-37A5 (32t-37m) into a type of 20t-37m and to heighten 6m lifting height of structure. A Cranes Machinery Co., LTD. in Guangzhou undertook this job. After the completion of transformation for the crane, the serious laterodeviations of the crane were found in operational process, which affected its safety use. This paper used a finite ANSYS to perform the modal analysis of the crane before and after reconstruction. The results show that the dynamic stiffness of the remoulded crane was reduced obviously. For the reason, the four reinforcement schemes of the crane were put forward by the Cranes Machinery Co., LTD.. This study again performed the model analysis for the schemes and selected an optimal one by calculation, analysis and contrast, which has successfully solved the above problem. The present results can provide a reference for solving similar problems in the future.

The Impact

In this paper, elastic hydrodynamic lubrication theory was introduced into bearing dynamic stiffness calculation process to take into account the impact of the oil film on the rolling stiffness. Dynamic characteristics of NC boring machine spindle system dedicated to the manufacturing of bearing retainer were studied based on finite element analysis software. The rationality of the structural design of spindle was verified in the paper. The research provided a theoretical basis for the improvement of machine performance and dynamic design of NC boring machine spindle.

Thrust bearing is one of the most important components in ESPCP system, which determines the life of the whole system under the restriction of some factors such as the installation depth and the viscosity of swabbed petroleum oil etc. To increase the ability of high temperature resistance of thrust bearings under the limited radial size, the damage reason of applied bearings was analyzed. Some different modified methods were employed on configuration and material. Contact problems were researched with finite element analysis software. Comparison of the analysis results shows that in the tube, it is optimum that 8 rollers thrust bearings are used in 10mm radial tube without holders.

An active engine mount (AEM) is an effective technology to improve a vehicle’s noise, vibration, and harshness performance. This paper mainly focuses on the combination experiment and finite element analysis (FEA) for parameter identification of AEMs. Notably, a novel test rig is designed to identify all specific parameters involved in the AEM. Firstly, the static and dynamic stiffness of the main rubber spring are calculated based on structure FEA method. The equivalent piston area and upper chamber volumetric stiffness are also estimated through fluid–structure interaction analysis. Inertia track parameters, involving inertia and linear and nonlinear resistance of the fluid, are identified by a simplified fluid model. These common hydraulic engine mount parameters are all experimentally validated through the original test rig. Besides, the particular components of the electromagnetic AEM, namely actuator parameters, are further estimated by experimental identification utilizing the experimental apparatus. The novel test bench, which exhibited high accuracy, good tightness, and strong versatility, not only simplifies the structure and process of identification plant for passive engine mount parameters, but accommodates the particular AEM ones. The combination method assimilates both the efficiency of FEA and the accuracy of experiment, facilitating the structure design and renovation of AEMs.

The designed spindle of turning center is researched. There are two groups of the spring-damper elements to simulate the bearings. The spindle is modeled to be 3D FEM parametric model, and the static analysis, model analysis and harmonic analysis are finished in ANSYS. Static stiffness, natural frequency and dynamic stiffness are calculated, the danger points are checked according to the resonance modes, and the performance of the spindle is verified to be reliable.
