Close range photogrammetry is a sensing technique that allows the three-dimensional coordinates of selected points on a surface of almost any dimension and orientation to be assessed. Surface characterisations of paraboloidal reflecting surfaces at the ANU using photogrammetry have indicated that three-dimensional coordinate precisions approaching 1:20,000 are readily achievable using this technique. This allows surface quality assessments to be made of large solar collecting devices with a precision that is difficult to achieve with other methods.

In a previous paper, the results of photogrammetric measurements of a number of paraboloidal reflecting surfaces were presented. These results showed that photogrammetry can provide three-dimensional surface characterisations of such solar concentrators. The present paper describes the assessment of the quality of these surfaces as a derivation of the photogrammetrically produced surface coordinates. Statistical analysis of the z-coordinate distribution of errors indicates that these generally conform to a univariate Gaussian distribution, while the numerical assessment of the surface normal vectors on these surfaces indicates that the surface normal deviations appear to follow an approximately bivariate Gaussian distribution. Ray tracing of the measured surfaces to predict the expected flux distribution at the focal point of the 400 m2 dish show a close correlation with the videographically measured flux distribution at the focal point of the dish.

Considerable research effort has been focused on evaluating the accuracy of meso- and macroscale digital close range photogrammetry. However, evaluations of accuracy and applications in the submillimeter scale are rare. In this paper the authors propose the development of a three-dimensional (3D) photogrammetric scanner, based on macrolens cameras, able to reconstruct the three-dimensional surface topography of objects with submillimeter features. The system exploits multifocal image composition and has been designed for installation on all types of Numerical Controlled or Robotic systems. The approach is exploitable for digitizing submillimeter features at mesoscale as well as macroscale objects.

Dynamic displacement measurement of objects can be challenging due to the limitations of conventional methods and pricey instrumentation of unconventional methods, such as laser scanners. In this research, Close Range Photogrammetry (CRP) is used as an affordable non-contact method to measure 3D dynamic displacements. It is proposed as a reliable alternative to traditional dynamic deformation measurement methods such as displacement sensors or accelerometers. For this purpose, dynamic displacements of a three-dimensional one-story building frame model on a one-dimensional shake table are determined by using the traditional method of attached accelerometer and CRP. The results of the CRP method are compared with the results of the traditional methods as well as numerical models. The results show a good agreement which evidences the reliability of the CRP with regular cameras.

This article describes the work of archaeological artifact data recording using close range photogrammetry method. A calibrated stereo camera was used to take the stereo images of the artifacts. Photomodeler Scanner software was used to process the stereo images to produce a three-dimensional model of the artifact. For verification purposes, VIVID 910 laser scanner was used to generate three-dimensional model of the same artifact. The study found that close range photogrammetry method is easy to use, with fast data recording, fast data processing and it is a method which is cheaper than the laser scanning method.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) remote sensing technology has the real-time ability to obtain ground images at earthquake landslide area. It makes it possible to extract landslide disaster information, support emergency rescue and decrease losses at the first second after earthquake. However, UAV remote sensing is prone to produce images with big-slant-angle. Although it is not fit for object measuring by traditional photogrammetry, it is benefit for observing slope at a better angle and extracting slope characteristics quantitatively. In this research, we define UAV big-slant-angle data as side-look images for earthquake landslide, which is based on an UAV close range photogrammetry idea. Image recognition of earthquake landslide area and three dimensional measuring of slope features will be researched. First of all, a projection datum plane along slope normal will be simulated according to the terrain surface. Appropriate images will be selected by evaluating camera pose and landslide overlapping rate. Secondly, orthogonal rotation matrixes are used to do 3D datum transformation with big-rotation-angle. Settlement of collinearity equations considering big-slant-angle condition will be researched. On this basis, dependent relative orientation among image series will be done to construct a three dimensional side-look-image model. At last, landslide image recognition, slope terrain surface reconstruction and landslide feature measurement is considered to cover the contents of earthquake landslide information extraction. Structural features and combined features can be analyzed and calculated on this basis. A rigorous solution of forward intersection in close range photogrammetry with big-slant-angle will be researched. Slope feature geometry and its relationship among images are to be considered to make a credible characteristic matching thinking big-rotation-angle exists. It has potentiality to provide variety landslide information with higher geometrical precision for cartography and risk analysis of earthquake landslide.

This research is to evaluate the feasibility of applying three-dimensional modelling of the close-range photogrammetry in documenting archaeological monuments by using digital photogrammetry image processing software and digital consumer camera. The digital camera used was Nikon D3100, the processing software was (AgiSoft PhotoScan) and (ArcGIS, ArcScene extension). The study area was selected in the centre of Baghdad province by choosing one of the archeological monuments in it, namely the Abbasid alace. A set of camera locations represent the locations of the images, and as a result of the processing, 81 digital images were arranged in a sequence in which the results of this step were verified. The points cloud after processing were 1,082,617 points. Six control points were selected, used as distances constrained. The validity of the fixed location of the points can be ascertained by checking the data. The program provide the error and accuracy for each image, where a total error in the scale bar was 0.005253 meters, a total error of marks points was 0.010957 meters and the accuracy for all six points was 0.005 meters.

Measurement Principle

The rapid detection of the large complex surface was researched with the development of China's manufacturing industry. A industrial close-range photogrammetry new detection Method was put forward based on the analysis of three-dimensional optical measurement principle. The experiment results verify that the accuracy of the three-dimensional optical measurement system independently developed by Xi'an Jiao Tong University meets the Engineering requirements. The main characteristics of large workpiece can be clearly measured and the detection method can be easily used at the production site.
