When planning experiments to examine how product performance depends on the design, manufacture and environment of use, there are invariably too few resources to enable a complete investigation of all possible variables (factors). We have developed new algorithms for generating and assessing efficient two-stage group screening strategies which are implemented through a web-based system called GISEL. This system elicits company knowledge which is used to guide the formulation of competing two-stage strategies and, via the algorithms, to provide quantitative assessment of their efficiencies. The two-stage group screening method investigates the effect of a large number of factors by grouping them in a first stage experiment whose results identify factors to be further investigated in a second stage. Central to the success of the procedure is ensuring that the factors considered, and their grouping, are based on the best available knowledge of the product. The web-based software system allows information and ideas to be contributed by engineers at different sites and allows the experiment organizer to use these expert opinions to guide decisions on the planning of group screening experiments. The new group screening algorithms implemented within the software give probability distributions and indications of the total resource needed for the experiment. In addition, the algorithms simulate results from the experiment and estimate the percentage of important or active main effects and interactions that fail to be detected. The approach is illustrated through the planning of an experiment on engine cold start optimization at Jaguar Cars.

Background People often search the internet to obtain health-related information not only for themselves but also for family members and, in particular, their children. However, for a minority of parents, such searches may become excessive and distressing. Little is known about excessive web-based searching by parents for information regarding their children’s health. Objective This study aimed to develop and validate an instrument designed to assess parents' web-based health information searching behavior, the Children’s Health Internet Research, Parental Inventory (CHIRPI). Methods A pilot survey was used to establish the instrument (21 items). CHIRPI was validated online in a second sample (372/384, 96.9% mothers; mean age 32.7 years, SD 5.8). Item analyses, an exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and correlations with parents’ perception of their children’s health-related vulnerability (Child Vulnerability Scale, CVS), parental health anxiety (modified short Health Anxiety Inventory, mSHAI), and parental cyberchondria (Cyberchondria Severity Scale, CSS-15) were calculated. A subset of participants (n=73) provided retest data after 4 weeks. CHIRPI scores (total scores and subscale scores) of parents with a chronically ill child and parents who perceived their child to be vulnerable (CVS+; CVS>10) were compared with 2×2 analyses of variances (ANOVAs) with the factors Child’s Health Status (chronically ill vs healthy) and perceived vulnerability (CVS+ vs CVS−). Results CHIRPI’s internal consistency was standardized alpha=.89. The EFA identified three subscales: Symptom Focus (standardized alpha=.87), Implementing Advice (standardized alpha=.74) and Distress (standardized alpha=.89). The retest reliability of CHIRPI was measured as rtt=0.78. CHIRPI correlated strongly with CSS-15 (r=0.66) and mSHAI (r=0.39). The ANOVAs comparing the CHIRPI total score and the subscale scores for parents having a chronically ill child and parents perceiving their child as vulnerable revealed the main effects for perceiving one’s child as vulnerable but not for having a chronically ill child. No interactions were found. This pattern was observed for the CHIRPI total score (η2=0.053) and each subscale (Symptom Focus η2=0.012; Distress η2=0.113; and Implementing Advice η2=0.018). Conclusions The psychometric properties of CHIRPI are excellent. Correlations with mSHAI and CSS-15 indicate its validity. CHIRPI appears to be differentially sensitive to excessive searches owing to parents perceiving their child’s health to be vulnerable rather than to higher informational needs of parents with chronically ill children. Therefore, it may help to identify parents who search excessively for web-based health information. CHIRPI (and, in particular, the Distress subscale) seems to capture a pattern of factors related to anxious health-related cognitions, emotions, and behaviors of parents, which is also applied to their children.

Formulation of the problem. The article reflects the assessment of the competitiveness of processed fruit and vegetable products, the qualitative characteristics of fruit and vegetable products are substantiated, as well as the parameters of the degree of consistency of expert opinions based on the calculation of the concordance coefficient. The purpose of the research is to reflect and characterize existing methods of integrated assessment of the competitiveness of processed fruit and vegetable products. The object of research – the process of determining the quality of products produced, as well as the competitiveness of processed fruit and vegetable products. The methods used in the research – logical, comparative, analytical, scientific and methodological. The hypothesis of the research is to assume the dependence of the competitiveness of processed fruit and vegetable products and its sales volumes. The statement of basic materials. The buyer prefers products depending on the purpose and use of this product. In the course of further processing, the buyer pays attention to the volume of packaging, the suitability of the packaging for the content of the product in it, the maximum time for the storage of products. The article suggests such indicators of quality of processed fruit and vegetable production: biochemical composition of products; packaging of products; design and design of products; appearance and consistency; terms of product suitability; cost of production per kilogram of production. The originality and practical significance of the research is that the author substantiates the degree of influence of the proposed indicators on competitiveness on the basis of expert assessments. The number of points is determined depending on the number of factors considered. The degree of consensus of expert opinions is established on the basis of calculating the coefficient of concordation. Conclusions of the research. In the process of packaging the product and its production must take into account the directions of its use. For further industrial consumption, processed fruit and vegetable products can be made with a higher content of dry soluble substances, vitamins, sugars, and acidity. This will save on the cost of packaging, transport costs, and handling operations.

Web-based conversational agents powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy have been proven efficacious in alleviating the symptoms of anxiety and depression, when compared to passive controls. However, the benefits of a fully automated agent vs. active controls have not yet been examined. Furthermore, the potential impact of such interventions on the transdiagnostic factors underlying anxiety and depression is not known. To elucidate this, 95 adults were randomized to receive (1) a 2-week intervention with an AI-powered chatbot (Woebot) (n=39) or (2) regular psychoeducational materials (n=54). In completers’ analyses, significant main effects of time were obtained for one of the primary outcomes, anxiety, and for the secondary outcomes, transdiagnostic factors, with both groups showing decreased anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty and increased rumination, selfcompassion, guilt and shame. No group by time interaction effects were found for either of the primary outcomes, depression and anxiety, or for the secondary outcomes. Intent-to-Treat analyses also revealed no significant effects of group on the primary or secondary outcomes. Our findings point to the necessity of further research to better understand the areas where chatbots might bring benefits superior to those obtained through simple and inexpensive strategies.

Abstract The effectiveness of the classic screening strategy was verified, by duplicating and verifying the degradation of gossypol by the Aspergillus niger. It can reduce the free gossypol content through biosorption but has no effect on the total gossypol content and cannot effectively degrade gossypol. And the most interesting thing we found the strain can secrete agarase, utilise agar as carbon source. In this case, that will mislead researchers and lead them to make wrong judgments. That turns out the usual methods of previous screening strategies are not rigorous enough, the classic screening method has defect in screening toxin-degrading strain, so agar control group should be added. In this study, some suggestions are put forward to optimise the same type of experiments and broaden the idea of detoxification by microorganisms and provide reference for screening effective toxin-degrading microorganisms.

The Internet is becoming increasingly important as a sales channel. Thus, most large retail firms have adopted a multi-channel strategy that includes both web-based channels and pre-existing offline channels. In this paper, we consider joint pricing and inventory/production decision problems for members in a monopoly two-stage dual-channel retailer supply chain. For a dual-channel retailer, pricing in one channel will affect the demand in the other channel. This subsequently affects the retailer's replenishment (ordering) decisions, which have an impact on the producer's inventory/production plans and wholesale price decisions. It is clear then that pricing decisions and inventory/production decisions are interacting in each member of the supply chain and among the members in the chain as well. In this paper, we analyze joint pricing and inventory/production problems under three scenarios by incorporating intra-product line price interaction in the EOQ model. We show that a unique equilibrium exists under certain realistic conditions. We also provide numerical results that offer insights for pricing strategies for the dual-channel retailer supply chain and for product design for different channels.

In different regions of the world, the growth in home broadband adoption and development of e-services depends on a number of factors which can decrease digital divide in size or can result in widened “gaps” between developed and developing economies as well as between rich and poor regions or social groups. These factors comprise both drivers of, and barriers to, development of broadband access and growth of e-services as well as human communication and digital interactions in terms of comprehension and relationship building (i.e., the successful collaboration in contemporary society). Using a human communication point of view, this chapter provides insight into a concept of information divide, specifies the distinction between digital and information divide, examines each of the factors that condition the mass-market broadband adoption, and considers the impact of techno economic stratification for the development of web-based e-services.

Rearrangement of land resources after political changes has not yet been finished in Hungary. It is almost impossible to collect information necessary for planning activities on outer areas of settlements. The data are distributed among various organizations and can be found in diverse forms or there are no available data at all. However water quality protection has become legally ordered concerning municipal activities around Lake Balaton which is considered as the most important recreation area and tourist target in Hungary and is also affected by a number of factors providing sources of environmental conflicts. Settlements in a catchment area (Tetves Creek) on the southern shoreline of Lake Balaton in Central Hungary tendered a complex project for collecting sources of authentic data of the Hungarian rural areas along with systematizing and saving these data in a uniform GIS. An application using Autodesk MapGuide Program for Internet realization was developed. The implemented web-based system can be used in Internet and Intranet environments.
