There has been an enormous increase in the use of solar heating and photovoltaic systems worldwide. Building professionals to better design buildings, windows and other solar related constructs require current and accurate compilations of solar irradiance data. Frequently, enough care is not exercised with respect to quality of the measurements. Traditionally, researchers have used several methods for the quality assessment of solar irradiance data. This article addresses two of those methods, visual and quartile analysis, often used to identify “outliers” in the large datasets typically found in solar energy related research. The present work introduces another method for identification of erroneous data, based on standard deviations, using the clearness index and the diffuse ratio. This method is highly efficient in terms of its algorithmic approach.

Published hourly solar irradiance data are used to calculate the hourly clearness indices for three municipalities (Los Angles, Orlando and New York City). The clearness index method is then used to model the hourly total solar irradiance (summation of beam, diffuse and ground reflected) on an arbitrarily oriented surface. The orientations of solar panel for maximum annual solar irradiance for these locations are determined. It is shown that in some cases the southward solar panels do not yield maximum annual solar irradiance. Further, it is shown that using the hourly clearness index results in solar irradiance distribution that is not symmetric with respect to the solar noon.

This qualitative study explored the benefits of implementing (international) teleconsultation in a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) curriculum. Twenty-one students provided supervised teleconsultative services to individuals with disabilities in Guatemala and were responsible for completing assessments, setting goals, and providing resources to address goals and improve quality of life.  Data were collected through student presentations and coded for relevant themes. Analysis revealed new learning in the areas of the occupational therapy process, cultural awareness, and technology. Three themes emerged:  Increased Understanding of Awareness of and Challenges to Working with People of Different Culture; Need for Adaptability and Flexibility as Practicing Clinicians; Emerging Role of Technology in Occupational Therapy. Based on results from this study, occupational therapy academicians should consider implementing similar programs into curricula and conduct related research in order to promote not only student learning, but also to advance the use of technology in occupational therapy practice.

Drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) occurs in 20%–30% of children with epilepsy with significant impact on their quality of life. Management of this group of children has greatly improved in the recent years with streamlining of epilepsy surgery services and associated quaternary multimodal evaluation. This article provides a review of DRE in children and management based on recent evidence and published opinion. We have also presented an algorithmic approach to the child with possible DRE.

ABSTRACTThis paper analyses changes occurred within paradigms in bureaucratic organizations, aiming at proving the quality of the services offered to the citizens. The posbureaucratic paradigm implies a course change that questions from the own conception the figure of the «public servant» and grants the major importance to the employees, it considers the influence and the importance of the institutions and its relation with the social conventions that imprints a characteristic identity to each particular bureaucratic organization, for that reason the contributions of the sociological theory are examined to understand the entailment between the social action and the social conventions and institutions, to illustrate the importance of the social conventions on which the daily operation of the bureaucracy rests; in order to propose related research projects.
