Porous concrete pavement has been used in some countries as a solution to environmental problems. Contrary to conventional concrete pavement, there is still lack of knowledge in some areas of production and performance of porous concrete pavement. One of the issue concern is curing conditions. These greatly affect the performance of porous concrete pavement. This paper elaborates the experimental results examining the influence of curing method and makes a comparison between five different curing methods on the strength of porous concrete pavement specimens. The properties analyzed include compressive strength, tensile splitting strength and flexural strength. The experimental results indicate that the different curing methods give a different effect to concrete strength. Based on the results obtained in this experiment, curing method by using polyethylene bag promise a good result and better performance to porous concrete pavement specimen strength.

Rainwater harvesting and flood prevention in cities are significant urban hydrological concerns. The use of porous pavement is one of the most effective solutions to handle this matter. Thus, this study aims to develop Porous Interlocking Concrete Pavement (PICP) using recycled aggregate from concrete waste. This porous pavement, then later, can be utilized in low traffic areas and parking lots to harvest water by infiltration and reduce surface runoff. First, the physical properties of the porous concrete blocks, such as density (unit weight), absorption, coefficient of permeability, and porosity, were studied. Also, the mechanical properties of concrete mixtures like compressive strength and flexural strength were tested. This study used two types of PICP, the first one with ordinary coarse aggregate (P1) and the second with recycled crushed concrete coarse aggregate (P2), and then compared their performance to the conventional concrete pavement blocks used the two types of coarse aggregate (R1 and R2). The results show that the unit weight (density) of porous types was reduced by 25% and 26%, and the total porosity increases by around 2.4 times and 18 times respectively, as compared to conventional concrete pavement types. However, the compressive strength and flexural strength of porous concrete types decreased by (55% and 71%), respectively, compared to conventional types. Overall, the infiltration test results showed that the infiltrated water through porous concrete increased by about 83% in comparison to conventional concrete. From the results, utilizing porous concrete pavement can be considered a promising material in terms of water harvesting and decreasing rainwater flooding. Additionally, using recycled concrete can bring economical and environmental benefits.

This paper describes a special concrete - dry-mixed concrete antifreeze. By simulating winter construction environment ,at -15~-5 °C, added different antifreeze admixtures ,under different curing conditions ,adjusted the concrete mix, concrete strength to meet the requirements of the premise, to identify the most suitable dry-mixed antifreeze concrete mix.

Porous concrete pavement is being used as one of the solution to decrease the storm water runoff by capturing and allowing rain water to drain into the land surface. The main problem of porous concrete pavement is the strength itself. The objective of this paper is to review the use and performance of nanosilica in porous concrete pavement. From the literature review of the previous research, it was found that the conventional porous concrete pavement doesn't has good strength for pavement purpose. An addition of nanomaterial will improve the physical and chemical properties of the porous concrete pavement.

Many researches on double skin sandwich having top and bottom steel plates and in between concrete core called as steel-concrete-steel (SCS) were carried out by them on this SCS type using with different materials. Yet, use of coconut shell concrete (CSC) as a core material on this SCS form construction and their results are very limited. Study investigated to use j-hook shear studs under flexure in the concept of steel-concrete-steel (SCS) in which the core concrete was CSC. To compare the results of CSC, the conventional concrete (CC) was also considered. To study the effect of quarry dust (QD) in its place of river sand (RS) was also taken. Hence four different mixes two without QD and two with QD both in CC and CSC was considered. The problem statement is to examine about partial and fully composite, moment capacity, deflection and ductility properties of CSC used SCS form of construction. Core concrete strength and the j-hook shear studs used are influences the moment carrying capacity of the SCS beams. Use of QD in its place of RS enhances the strength of concrete produced. Deflections predicted theoretically were compared with experimental results. The SCS beams showed good ductility behavior.

A concurrent program is intuitively associated with probability: the executions of the program can produce nondeterministic execution program paths due to the interleavings of threads, whereas some paths can always be executed more frequently than the others. An exploration of the probabilities on the execution paths is expected to provide engineers or compilers with support in helping, either at coding phase or at compile time, to optimize some hottest paths. However, it is not easy to take a static analysis of the probabilities on a concurrent program in that the scheduling of threads of a concurrent program usually depends on the operating system and hardware (e.g., processor) on which the program is executed, which may be vary from machine to machine. In this paper the authors propose a platform independent approach, called ProbPP, to analyzing probabilities on the execution paths of the multithreaded programs. The main idea of ProbPP is to calculate the probabilities on the basis of two kinds of probabilities: Primitive Dependent Probabilities (PDPs) representing the control dependent probabilities among the program statements and Thread Execution Probabilities (TEPs) representing the probabilities of threads being scheduled to execute. The authors have also conducted two preliminary experiments to evaluate the effectiveness and performance of ProbPP, and the experimental results show that ProbPP can provide engineers with acceptable accuracy.

Concrete made by post-filling coarse aggregate process could reduce the cement content greatly compared with traditional concrete placement method. Thus, it not only lowers the production cost of concrete through lower usage of cement but also reduces the CO2 emissions to the environment. In this paper, the compressive and tensile strength of post-filling coarse aggregate concrete with different post-filling ratios (PFRs) (0%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%) and concrete strength grades (C30, C40, C50) were first studied. Then the flexural performance of nineteen concrete beams with different concrete strength, post-filling ratios, reinforcement ratios was investigated. The experimental results showed that the compressive strength and elastic modulus of the post-filling coarse aggregate concrete increased with the increase of the post-filling ratio of coarse aggregate, reaching the peak value at the filling ratio of 20%. It indicated that there was no obvious difference in the failure mode as well as middle-span deflections between post-filling coarse aggregate concrete (PFCC) beams and ordinary concrete (OC) beams. Ductile failure was observed for all nineteen specimens. Results demonstrated that the cracking load, yield load, and ultimate load of the post-filling coarse aggregate concrete beams all reached the peak value at the post-filling ratio of 20%. In addition, the theoretical predictions of cracking loads and ultimate load carrying capacities matched the experimental results in satisfactory agreement.

The effect of coarse aggregate on pavement performance has been attributed to the volume of aggregate used in pavement construction. The different patterns of crack development for limestone (LS) and siliceous river gravel (SRG) are a typical example of aggregate-induced variable performance in continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP). An attempt was made to find a reasonable solution for pavements with SRG. As a way to solve the performance problem observed from the SRG pavement, a blended aggregates mixture was suggested. Laboratory and field tests were performed to check the feasibility of their application in pavements. From the laboratory test, a 50:50 blending ratio was suggested after considering the effect on tensile strength and thermal coefficient of expansion. Field test sections were also constructed to verify previous performance observations for the two aggregates and to provide performance data for new variables such as blended aggregates and special curing methods. Unexpectedly, the blended mixture did not improve the performance of SRG pavement; rather it experienced worse cracking than SRG alone. A controlled experiment with additional field test sections is needed to verify or disprove this finding. The only definitive finding was that selection of aggregate in the concrete pavement is a vital consideration for the design of the pavement. The CRCP8 analytical program reasonably predicted crack spacing for both SRG and LS pavements, predicting mean crack spacing of 0.99 m (3.25 ft) for SRG and 1.98 m (6.41 ft) for the limestone. These values are somewhat below the actual spacing observed at 100 days. Data collected after the first winter period will be required to calibrate the program.

In today’s industrial world multilevel inverter (MLI) got a significant importance in medium voltage application and also a very potential topic for researchers. It is experienced that studying and comparing results of multilevel inverter (MLI) at distinct levels are a costlier and time consuming issue for any researcher if he fabricate different inverters for each level, as designing power modules simultaneously for different level is a cumbersome task. In this paper a flexible quotient has been proposed to recognize possible conversion of available MLI to few lower level inverters by appropriately changing microcontroller programming. This is an attempt to obtain such change in levels through simulation using MATLAB Simulink on inductive load which may also be applied to induction motor. Experimental results of pulse generation using dsPIC33EP256MC202 demonstrate the feasibility of proposed scheme. Proposed flexible quotient successfully demonstrates that a five-level inverter may be operated as three and two levels also. The paper focuses on odd levels only as common mode voltage (CMV) can be reduced to zero and performance of drives is better than even level. Simulated and experimental results are given in paper.

This paper discusses the experimental results on the mechanical properties of hybrid fibre reinforced composite concrete (HyFRCC) containing different proportions of steel fibre (SF) and polypropylene fibre (PPF). The mechanical properties include compressive strength, tensile strength, and flexural strength. SF is known to enhance the flexural and tensile strengths, and at the same time is able to resist the formation of macro cracking. Meanwhile, PPF contributes to the tensile strain capacity and compressive strength, and also delay the formation of micro cracks. Hooked-end deformed type SF fibre with 60 mm length and fibrillated virgin type PPF fibre with 19 mm length are used in this study. Meanwhile, the concrete strength is maintained for grade C30. The percentage proportion of SF-PPF fibres are varied in the range of 100-0%, 75-25%, 50-50%, 25-75% and 0-100% of which the total fibre volume fraction (Vf) is fixed at 0.5%. The experimental results reveal that the percentage proportion of SF-PPF fibres with 75-25% produced the maximum performance of flexural strength, tensile strength and flexural toughness. Meanwhile, the percentage proportion of SF-PPF fibres with 100-0% contributes to the improvement of the compressive strength compared to that of plain concrete.
