The chapter documents the growth of economic relations between China and Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), focussing on trade, foreign direct investment, Chinese construction and engineering projects, loans, and aid. The chapter highlights the way in which these are sometimes combined in resources-for-infrastructure deals. It shows the variety of different actors involved in these relationships, including state and non-state actors, on both the Chinese and African sides. It then discusses the role of strategic diplomatic, strategic economic, and commercial objectives in the growing Chinese involvement in SSA. It also addresses questions of African agency and the interests of African actors in economic relations with China. The impact of political, strategic economic and commercial factors on different types of economic relations is then analyzed econometrically.

The current economic expansion in the United States, which began in the summer of 2009, has lasted for more than nine years as of this writing, making it the second longest expansion since the end of World War II. The previous two expansions, of the 1990s and 2000s, were prolonged by big asset bubbles, which have played a key role in the neoliberal era in promoting long economic expansions. However, the current expansion has not seen an asset bubble large enough to significantly affect the macroeconomy. This paper examines the expansion since 2009 by analyzing the movements of the rate of profit, and its determinants, and the role of aggregate demand, with the aim of determining the factors that have kept crisis tendencies at bay so far. AbstractA multiproxy analysis (sedimentology, geochemistry and pollen) of sediments recovered in the Butrint lagoon (Albania) allows us to reconstruct the environmental changes that occurred in the area during the 1st millenniumAD. In this paper, we compare these analytical results with the evidence provided by archaeological investigations carried out at the site of the Roman city of Butrint (surrounded by these lagoon waters) and in the city’s hinterlands. From this, we can say that different periods of farming and siltation (AD400–600 and 700–900) were accompanied by increased run-off and wetter conditions in the region. This coincided with the territorial and economic expansion of the Byzantine empire, suggesting the key role of trade in the profound land use changes experienced in Butrint.

The country's domestic economic expansion is becoming increasingly important, especially in the context of the epidemic and financial crises, both within individual countries and the world. To provide this growth, it is relevant to the strategy of the central bank's activities for overcoming extern in the context of epidemical and internal threats with specific regulatory approaches and monetary instruments. The paper summarizes the arguments and counterarguments within the discussion of the question regarding the central bank's influence on the country's economic growth. The study's primary purpose is to determine the relationship between the indicators that characterize the central bank's activities and the country's economic development. The systematization of literary sources and approaches related to this issue confirms the mediated relationship between the activities of the central bank and the economic growth on a long-term basis. The relevance of this topic is closely connected with the changing role of the central bank and the expansion of its powers, tasks, responsibilities, and its place in the country's economy. This research's objective is the economies of the countries predominantly of the European Union, which has different levels of economic development. The structural modeling method is used in STATA 12.0 (based on data on 11 variables for the period of 1998-2016 for 24 countries). The results of the study confirm the correlation between the role of central banks and domestic economic expansion.

By investigating the rise of ethnic diversity in Xinjiang and studying economic changes caused by migration, social, and economic issues in general, this paper proposes that diversity and economic development are linked. While some argue that the costs of immigration and increased violence or insecurity worsen the local economic situation, I argue that diversity has promoted economic expansion in Xinjiang.
