Vanishing gastroschisis is a rare in utero complication of gastroschisis. It is associated with a high mortality. We present a case report of an infant with vanishing gastroschisis that was managed with a combination of reconstructive bowel surgery and hepatosparing parenteral nutrition. The technique is described and a review of the literature is provided.

Though being usually a cutaneous tumor, melanomas can occur in several extracutaneous sites. Primary mucosal melanomas are rare, and primary gastric mucosal melanomas are considered extremely rare. Compared with cutaneous and ocular melanoma, mucosal melanomas have the lowest five-year survival. High level of suspicion of such rare condition may be the only way for early detection, diagnosis and chance for successful management of similar cases. Traumatic perineal injury in children is a rather underestimated condition, in terms of occurrence. The rapid stretching of the soft perineal environment, combined with the surrounding osseous tissue of the pelvis, can cause severe injuries. The key to successful management of these injuries includes timely resuscitation, thorough physical examination and quick and safe repair of damages.

Bone marrow cryptococcosis has been rarely reported in the literature, and there are no established treatment guidelines specific to this AIDS-related complication. The recommended treatment for AIDS-related invasive fungal treatments include amphotericin B and flucytosine which are associated with an array of complications making optimal treatment recommendations difficult. This case presentation represents an example of a patient with newly diagnosed AIDS and bone marrow cryptococcosis, which was successfully managed with an antifungal regimen adjusted to her comorbidities.
