Abstract The Professional Performance Review Process for School-Based Speech-Language Pathologists (PPRP) (ASHA, 2006) was developed in response to the need for a performance review tool that fits school district requirements for performance review management while addressing the specific roles and responsibilities of a school-based speech-language pathologist (ASHA, 2006). This article will examine the purpose and components of the PPRP. A description of its use as a tool for self-advocacy will be discussed. Strategies for successful implementation of the PPRP will be explained using insight from speech-language pathologists and other professionals familiar with the PPRP.

Does empathy merely take place in leaders’ mind? How does it help us better understand and practice leadership? In the past, entitative relational leadership studies have mainly drawn on a mind-based understanding of empathy and focused on the association between individual empathy trait and leader emergence and effectiveness. Such an approach overlooks leadership practice of empathy as a constructive process. By integrating emerging research from diverse disciplines from philosophy to communication, the paper first offers a constructionist view of empathy, based on which empathic leadership practice is conceptualized. The paper explicates how leadership practice of empathy construction is rooted in relational ethics and takes place in both synchronic dyadic interaction through conversation as well as diachronic narrative practice with a collective other. By conceptualizing empathic leadership practice through a social constructionist approach to empathy, the paper makes significant contributions to our understanding of relational leadership.

AbstractThe trend of globalization has led to a structural change in the sales and procurement markets of manufacturing companies in recent decades. In order not to be left behind by this change, companies have internationalized their production structures. Global production networks with diverse supply and service interdependencies are the result. However, the management of global production networks is highly complex. Key performance indicator (KPI) networks already exist at the corporate level and site level to support the management of complex systems. However, such KPI networks are not yet available to support the management of entire production networks. In this article, a KPI network for global production networks is presented, which links the key figures of the site level and the corporate level. By integrating both levels into a comprehensive KPI network, cause and effect relationship between the production-related KPIs and the strategic KPIs of a corporate strategy become transparent. To this end, this KPI network is integrated into a Performance Measurement and Management (PMM) methodology. This methodology consists of three phases: performance planning, performance improvement, and performance review. For testing the practical suitability, the PMM methodology is applied to the production network of an automotive supplier using a simulation model to estimate the effects of proposed improvement actions of the methodology.

The ‘Final Act of the Conference on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources’ included a statement made on 19 May 1980 by its Chairman. The ‘Chairman’s Statement’ addressed the CAMLR Convention’s application in waters adjacent to the Kerguelen and Crozet Islands over which France exercises jurisdiction by virtue of its sovereignty over the islands. The Statement included explicit reference to waters adjacent to other islands within the CCAMLR Area, where the existence of State sovereignty is recognised by all the Convention Contracting Parties. In 2007 the CCAMLR Performance Review noted the increasing frequency with which some Commission Members were invoking the Chairman’s Statement. In particular, the Review Panel expressed the view that a point has been reached where any Conservation Measure adopted by CCAMLR invariably attracts a formal reservation on the perception that a conservation measure affects the maritime jurisdictions of certain Members, particularly those exercising national sovereignty over sub-Antarctic islands in the CCAMLR Indian Ocean sector. This paper examines the background to, and practices associated with, applying CCAMLR Conservation Measure reservations under the Chairman’s Statement.
