Aims:   To study the effect of lignite humin (LH) and poultry manure humin (PMH) application on economics of hybrid maize production in an acid soil of eastern dry zone of Karnataka. Study Design: Randomized complete block design (RCBD) comprising ten treatments and three replications. Place and Duration of Study: Krishi Vigyana Kendra, Hadonahalli, Bengaluru rural district (Karnataka) during kharif 2018. Methodology: A field experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with ten treatments, replicated thrice during kharif 2018 at Krishi Vigyana Kendra, Hadonahalli, Bengaluru rural district, Karnataka. The Lignite Humin (LH) and Poultry Manure Humin (PH) were applied at different doses (0, 2.5, 7.5 & 10 t ha-1) in combination with FYM (Farm Yard Manure) applied in such a way that the total quantity of humin and FYM is equivalent to 10 t ha-1. Results: The results revealed that significant variation was observed on yield and benefit: Cost ratio due to application of Farm Yard Manure (FYM), LH and PMH. Significantly higher maize kernel (8070 kg ha-1) and stover yield (9948 kg ha-1) were recorded in treatment T2 (100% RDF + FYM @ 10 t ha-1) and which was found on par with treatment T7 (100% RDF + PMH @ 2.5 t ha-1 + FYM @ 7.5 t ha-1) and T3 (100% RDF + LH @ 2.5 t ha-1 + FYM @ 7.5 t ha-1) and T8 (100% RDF + PMH @ 5 t ha-1 + FYM @ 5 t ha-1). Wherein, higher B:C ratio of 2.24 was recorded in treatment T10 receiving 100% RDF + PMH @ 10 t ha-1and it was followed by treatment receiving T2(2.21) and T9 : 100% RDF + PMH @ 7.5 t ha-1 + FYM @ 2.5 t ha-1 (2.20). Whereas the least B:C ratio (1.72) was observed in the absolute control treatment where no manures and fertilizers were given. Conclusion: These results suggest that higher B:C ratio in these treatments might be due to lower cost of cultivation and it increases with increased in dose of lignite and poultry manure based humin.

Salinity causes unfavorable environment that restricts normal crop production. Organic amendments could contribute to the improvement of crop production in coastal areas. Two rice varieties viz. BRRI dhan29 (salt-sensitive) and Binadhan-8 (salt-tolerant) were grown in replicated pots to investigate the mitigation potential of salt stress in rice by organic amendments. Two doses of farm yard manure (FYM: 5 and 10 t ha-1) and poultry manure (PM: 4 and 8 t ha-1) were mixed with soils before transplanting. Rice plants were exposed to different concentrations of NaCl (25 and 50 mM) at active tillering stage. Salt stress caused a significant reduction in growth and yield of both rice varieties. Salt stress also decreased reproductive growth, chlorophyll contents, K+/Na+ ratio, nutrient contents and nutrient uptake in both rice varieties. Salinity caused a significant increase in intracellular proline content in BRRI dhan29 but a decrease in Binadhan-8. Organic amendments with FYM and PM resulted in an increase in growth and yield components, chlorophyll content, K+/Na+ ratio and nitrogen (N) uptake. No plants of BRRI dhan29 survived at 50 mM NaCl stress even after addition of FYM and PM. On the other hand, Binadhan-8 conferred tolerance to 50 mM NaCl stress when soils were amended with organic sources, suggesting that cultivation of Binadhan-8 might be profitable in saline affected areas with organic amendments. The present study suggests that organic amendments with FYM and PM confer tolerance to salinity in rice by increasing chlorophyll content, K+/Na+ ratio and N uptake.Res. Agric., Livest. Abstract Soil productivity one of the essential factors which enhanced either through adding the chemical fertilizer or by incorporation of organic sources of nutrients to the soil. Regardless by the used of imbalanced fertilizer without the application of organic manure and without seeking knowledge of crops and fertility classification of soil causes to much hazards such as deterioration of soil structure, soil and water pollution etc. Two years field experiment was carried out to check the impact of transitory nitrogen sources on the nutrient concentration, uptake and production of hybrid maize at the Agronomic Research Area, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan, during the year 2008-2009. Treatments included two hybrids: H1 (Pioneer-30Y87) and H2 (Pioneer-31R88) with six nitrogen sources each, which included at the rate of S0: control (0) kg N ha-1, S1: chemical source (urea) 250 kg N ha-1, S2: poultry manure (PM) 9.6 t ha-1, S3: farm yard manure (FYM) 17.8 t ha-1, S4: pressmud of sugarcane (PMS) 8.5 t ha-1 and S5: compost (C) 10.0 t ha-1. Finding concluded that changing effect of nitrogen sources on both maize hybrid was found to be non significant during 2008-2009 while grain yield was significant during both years. Maximum nutrient concentration, uptake and yield were observed with nitrogen source S1: chemical source (urea) 250 kg N ha-1 during 2008-2009 as compared to other nitrogen sources and minimum was found in control (0) kg N ha-1, respectively. Interaction among hybrid and nitrogen sources was found to be non significant.

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of integrated nutrient management modules on garlic yield, nutrient uptake, and pungency during 2011-12 and 2012-13. The experiment consisted of nine treatments that were performed in randomized block design with three replications. Integration of inorganic fertilizers, farm yard manure (FYM) and vermicompost (VC) or poultry manure (PM) or integration of inorganic fertilizers with FYM, VC and PM increased garlic yield by 6.5-7.9 per cent compared to inorganic fertilizers alone and 9.9-11.2 per cent compared to integrated use of single source of organic manure, biofertilizers, and inorganic fertilizers. Pyruvic acid content was higher in the plots received integrated use of inorganic fertilizers, organic manures, and biofertilizers increased soil organic carbon, and maintained soil fertility status compared to pre-planting soil test values. INM treatments had higher levels of nutrient uptake compared to the treatments received inorganic fertilizers alone. This result indicate that the farmers could save 25 per cent inorganic fertilizers and organic manures by integrating inorganic fertilizers, FYM with VC or PM, or by integrating inorganic fertilizers, FYM, VC, and PM.

A field experiment was conducted in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University farm, Coimbatore to compare the organic nutrient management packages with integrated nutrient management (INM) in cotton. The experiment was consisted of eighteen treatments, laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design and replicated thrice. The results revealed that INM practices increased the plant height over other treatments. Significant increase in yield components like sympodial branches plant-1, number of bolls plant-1 and boll weight were observed under INM treatment and was at par with recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF), Farm yard manure and poultry manure compared to all other treatment combinations. The INM practice resulted in significantly higher seed cotton yield and was comparable with RDF. The quality characters did not exhibit any significant variation among the nutrient management practices. Higher gross and net returns and B:C ratio were also recorded in INM practices.

Six field experiments were conducted at Tamil Nadu Rice Research Institute, Aduthurai to evolve suitable zinc fertilization method for rice - rice (Oryza sativa L.) cropping system in Cauvery delta zone. The treatment includes: T1 : Control, T2 : 100 g zinc sulphate (ZnSO4)/cent in nursery alone., T3 : root dipping alone in 2 % zinc oxide (ZnO) solution, T4 : 25 kg ZnSO4 ha-1, T5 : 37.5 kg ZnSO4 ha-1, T6 : 25 kg ZnSO4 ha-1+ Farm Yard Manure (FYM) 12.5 t ha-1, T7 : 25 kg ZnSO4 ha-1 + Green Leaf Manure (GLM) 6.5 t ha-1, T8 : Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Micro Nutrient (TNAU MN) mixture 25 kg ha-1 as Enriched Farm Yard Manure (EFYM), T9 : TNAU MN mixture 37.5 kg ha-1 as EFYM, T10 : Foliar spray of 0.5% ZnSO4 + 1 % urea at tillering and panicle initiation stage, T11 : 100g ZnSO4 /cent in nursery alone + Foliar spray of 0.5 % ZnSO4 + 1 % urea at tillering and panicle initiation stage (T2+ T10), T12 : root dipping alone in 2 % ZnO solution + Foliar spray of 0.5 % ZnSO4 + 1 % urea at tillering and panicle initiation stage (T3 + T10), T13: 100 g ZnSO4 /cent in nursery alone + root dipping alone in 2 % ZnO solution + Foliar spray of 0.5 % ZnSO4 + 1 % urea at tillering and panicle initiation stage (T2 + T3 + T10). The treatments T5, T6, T7 and T9 were skipped in rabi season to know the residual effect of these treatments in the subsequent season. Among the treatment combinations, application of 25 kg ZnSO4 ha-1 + FYM 12.5 t ha-1 recorded higher grain yield in both kharif (6232 kg ha-1) and rabi (6236 kg ha-1) seasons. The same treatment combination recorded higher Zn content and Zn uptake as well. Regarding soil nutrient content, the same treatment recorded higher N, P and K content. This treatment was followed by application of 25 kg ZnSO4 ha-1 + green leaf manure 6.5 t ha-1. The experimental findings suggested that combination of organic and inorganic sources not only increased the yield but also improves soil health in Cauvery delta zone.

Естественное возобновление является важным фактором формирования насаждений, особенно главных лесообразующих пород. Растительное сообщество становится жизнестойким при условии способности восстановить численность популяций заменой погибших экземпляров новыми. Было выяснено в каком количестве происходит естественное возобновление сосны на гарях по сравнению с граничащими участками, не пройденными пожарами, взятые в качестве контроля. Район исследований относится к южной подзоне тайги на территории Ленинградской области в Кировском и Лужском лесничествах. Объектом исследований стали сосновые насаждения, где работы проводились в летний период с 2013 по 2015 год. Всего подобрано 36 участков (включая контроль) размером не более 0,3 га. Учет подроста проводился на учетных площадках. Каждая учетная площадка закладывалась при помощи шеста длиной 178,5 см. Площадь круговых площадок составляла 10 м2, они расположены последовательно друг за другом с непосредственным примыканием. На каждой площадке проводили перечет подроста и делили его по высоте на три категории крупности: мелкий до 0,5 м, средний – 0,6–1,5 м и крупный – более 1,5 м. А также естественное возобновление на участках делили по густоте – на три категории: редкий – до 2 тыс., средней густоты – 2–8 тыс., густой – более 8 тыс. растений на 1 га; по распределению по площади – на три категории в зависимости от встречаемости. Анализ послепожарного возобновления в сосняках показал, что на пробных площадях наблюдается отличное возобновление подроста сосны и обилие на площади, все это связано с уничтожением лесной подстилки, увеличением минерализации почвы что, в конечном счете, положительно влияет на естественное лесовосстановление, о чем свидетельствует появление всходов, а также лучше становится гидрологический режим почвы. Благодаря этому происходит хорошее восстановление. Количество благонадежного подроста составляет от 3,5 до 11,9 тыс. шт./га и его достаточно для естественного восстановления ценопопуляции после пожара. Подтверждена зависимость количество самосева и толщины лесной подстилки. Прогретая после пожара, богатая минеральными веществами почва благоприятна для появления всходов и самосева древесных растений. Natural regeneration is an important factor in the formation of plantations, especially the main forest-forming species. Plant community becomes viable, provided the ability to recover populations, replacement of lost copies new. The study area belongs to the subzone of southern taiga on the territory of Leningrad region, the Kirov and Luga districts. The object of research became pine plantations where the work was carried out in year period from 2013 to 2015. Just picked up 36 stations (including the control) no larger than 0.3 hectares. accounting for the undergrowth was conducted on index sites. Each user platform was laid with a pole length of 178.5 cm the area of the circular pads was 10 m2, they are located successively one after another with a direct connection. At each site conducted the translation of the undergrowth and it was divided in height into three categories of size: small up to 0.5 m, average 0.6 to 1.5 meters and large – more than 1.5 meters. And natural regeneration on plots divided by the density for three categories: rare – up to 2 thousand, medium density – 2 to 8 thousand, thick – more than 8 thousand plants per 1 ha; on the distribution of the area – into three categories depending on the occurrence. Analysis of post-fire regeneration in pine forests showed that the sample areas there is a great renewal of undergrowth of pine and the abundance on the square, all this is due to the destruction of forest litter, increasing salinity of the soil which, ultimately, has a positive effect on natural regeneration, as evidenced by the appearance of seedlings, as well as better hydrological regime of the soil. Which a good recovery. The number of reliable undergrowth is from 3.5 to 11.9 thousand PCs/ha, enough for natural regeneration of seedlings after the fire. Confirmed the dependence of the number of self-seeding and thickness of forest litter. After the fire-warmed, mineral-rich soil is favorable for emergence and self-seeding of woody plants.
