The problematic relationship between urban dislocation, the proscribed spaces of urban childhood, child marginnalisation and the societal invisibility of under-age citizens is widely thematised in contemporary children's literature. This article examines how childhood agency, as a form of power, becomes aligned with resilience through intersubjectivity in the narrative representations of marginalised child subjects in Virginia Hamilton's The Planet of Junior Brown (1987) and Julie Bertagna's The Spark Gap ( 1996 ). Depictions of child homelessness, which construct resilience in the determination to survive experiences of marginalisation, dislocation and loss, offer an opportunity to examine representations of child subjectivity. This discussion centres on the role of intersubjectivity as an alternative construction to some humanistic frames that privilege the notion of an individual agency divested of childhood's limitations. It identifies the experiential codes which more accurately reflect the choices available to young readers, where liminal spaces of homelessness that first establish social and cultural dependencies are re-interpreted through depictions of relational connection among displaced child subjects. The discussion suggests that these multifocal novels construct dialogic representations of social discourse that affirm intersubjectivity as a form of agency.

Globalization remains the most common and quite controversial concept in modern social discourse. Within the theoretical and conceptual sociological dimension, the authors analyzed the essence of economic globalization (EG) as its defining type. They studied globalization as an objective process (first of all, the international division of labour) and the subjective process of forming a global capitalist economy under the auspices of leading Western countries, supranational financial and economic institutions (primarily the World Bank and the IMF), TNCs. As the main drivers of globalization, they determine its forms and directions in the interests of the "core" of global capitalism. Within the empirical sociological dimension of EG (which involves measuring the various manifestations of the EG process itself as well as its social consequences), the authors paid particular attention to the analysis of social changes in Ukrainian society. The capitalization of the Ukrainian economy, which took place in parallel with Ukraine’s entry into the global economic space, led to degradation of the national economy, significant deterioration of living standards of most citizens, creation of anti-social state with the systemic crisis as its main attribute. To prove these conclusions, the authors analyzed the dynamics of the principal macroeconomic and sociological indicators of Ukrainian society’s life for almost 30 years of drift to the roadside of the global capitalist world, based on the study of numerous domestic and foreign sources. The authors focused on the research of eight critical areas of social changes: deindustrialization of the economy, global competitiveness and innovation, GDP dynamics, employment, income and welfare of the population, socioeconomic inequality, debt dependence and degradation of Ukrainian science. The analysis shows the need to abandon the neoliberal paradigm of development and search for the alternative and more fair models of EG.

The Mind

This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of a novel mind perception manipulation. Mind perception is currently theorized to be an essential aspect of a number of human social psychological processes. Thus, a successful manipulation would allow for the causal study of those processes. This manipulation was created in an attempt to explore the downstream impact of mind perception on the endorsement of conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories are steadily becoming more and more prominent in social discourse. Endorsement of conspiracy theories are beginning to show real world ramifications such as a danger to human health (e.g., in the anti-vaccination movement). A sample of college students (valid N = 53) from a large rural institution in the southeastern United States participated for course credit. These participants completed a mind perception pretest, were randomly assigned to either the manipulation in question (in which participants are asked to consider the ‘mind’ of several targets and write their thoughts about them) or the control condition, and then they completed a posttest. The mixed ANOVA revealed that the interaction term between Time and Condition was not significant. Because the manipulation did not work, other analyses were aborted, in accord with the pre-registration. My Discussion focuses on the procedures and potential shortcomings of this manipulation, in an effort to lay the groundwork for a successful one.

يعدّ عبد الحميد بن باديس أحد العلماء الجزائريين البارزين بالإصلاح الاجتماعي، حيث كان حافزًا له للقيام بتفسير عصريّ لآيات قرآنية مختارة، ملائمة لكل فئات، وطبقات المجتمع الجزائري يومئذ. ولقد فرض الواقع الجزائري المرّ إبّان فترة الاحتلال الفرنسي على ابن باديس سلوكَ سياسة تغيير الخطاب الإسلامي الإصلاحي من حين لآخر قاصدا بذلك مواجهة الاحتلال الفرنسي الغاشم الذي كان يسعى إلى طمس ثوابت الأمّة الجزائرية، وخرق تاريخها، وهُويّتها، وثقافتها، ووحدتها الدينيّة، واللّغوية من خلال عدّة جبهات ومجالات. يهدف هذا البحث إلى استنباط وجوه خطاب الإمام ابن باديس الإصلاحي في التفسير، فيبدأ أوّلاً بالحديث عن مفهوم الخطاب وأهميّته في الإصلاح؛ ثم يتناول بالدراسة والتحليل خطاب ابن باديس الإصلاحي على وجوه رئيسة ستة وهي: الخطاب العقدي، والخطاب الفقهي، والخطاب التهذيبي، والخطاب التذكيري، والخطاب التاريخي، والخطاب الاجتماعي؛ مستعينا بالمنهج الوصفي والتحليلي والاستقرائي. الكلمات المفتاحية: عبد الحميد بن باديس، وجوه الخطاب الإصلاحي، الإصلاح الاجتماعي، الخطاب الإسلامي، الثوابت.***********************Abdelhamid bin Badis is a prominent Algerian scholar known for his social reformation. He contributed to social reformation by taking up modern interpretation of selected verses of the Qur’an in a way suitable for all types of groups and sections of Algerian society at that time. The bitter Algerian reality during the period of French occupation led Ibn Badis to carry policy of changing Islamic reformist discourse from time to time with intention of confronting brutal French occupation which was attempting to obliterate foundations of Algerian nation; and tearing its history, identity, culture, and religious and linguistic unity, through several fronts and areas. This research aims to excogitate faces of the reformist message of Imam Ibn Badis in his exegesis discusses the concept of the message and its importance in the reform under six main aspects: doctrinal discourse, jurisprudential discourse, ethical discourse, reminder discourse, historical discourse, and social discourse. The research methods applied in the study include descriptive, analytical, and inductive.
