Greenhouse studies of cut flower snapdragons (Antirrhinum majus L.) using two night air and two root-zone temperatures were conducted to determine the effects on growth and quality of four cultivars in two response groups [`Cheyenne' and `Rainier White' (group II) and `Tampico' and `Potomac' (group III)]. The group II cultivars were the earliest to harvest, but at the expense of quality. Grades of first, extra, and fancy only were harvested. Group III cultivars were harvested with all grades; first, extra, fancy and special. Group II cultivars generally had weaker stems and were of lower dry weight. Night air temperature had the greatest effect on days to harvest. Harvest date was reduced more than 14 days, but at the expense of quality and dry weight. Root-zone heating decreased quality of the group II cultivars at either night air temperature. but reduced quality of the group Ill cultivars only at high night temperatures. Root-zone heat and high night air temperature reduced the number of days to harvest, also at the expense of quality. The majority of high quality stems were from group Ill cultivars harvested from rooms with low night temperatures without root-zone heat.

IntroductionThe general air criothepapy - the method of short-term assignment of warmth from all surface body of the patient by a laminar stream dry air, temperature from −110 to −120 °C. Such influence is stressful for a human.AimsEstimation level changes cortisol at patients in the course of treatment in ultralow temperature in conditions criochamber.MethodsResearches have been spent with use criochamber «Zimmer Mеdizin Systeme» (Germany). In research has taken part 145 peoples. Duration of sessions influence of ultralow temperature made in the first day of 0,5 mines, then, increasing by 0,5 mines daily and reached 3,0 minute durations by 6–7 day of a course. The course crio influence made 20 sessions. Level cortisol blood was defined once a week after each 5 sessions with the analyzer «Biotec ЕL 800».ResultsLevel cortisol before carrying out criotherapy at patients averaged 436 ± 26,6 nmol/l, after carrying out 5 sessions crio influence its values have been fixed at level - 420 ± 21,05 nmol/l, after 10th session level cortisol has on the average decreased to values - 401 ± 21,05 nmol/l, after 15 sessions to - 391 ± 21,5 nmol/l. After course end crio influence the average level cortisol has made 365 ± 31,5 nmol/l that was authentic more low, than indicator reference values (р < 0,05).ConclusionsIn the course crio influence there was a gradual decrease in level cortisol that speaks about decrease in stress at these persons, and also about human body adaptation to ultralow temperature influence at such a mode to 20th session.

The methodology of r contour mapping was used in this study of ‘Sirora’ pistachio (Pistacia vera) to establish whether there are any significant relationships between fruit quality characteristics in commercial pistachio production and air temperature in the year before the harvest of the crop as measured at a nearby meteorological station. The work was done near Mildura in Australia. Blank nut percentages were found to be reduced by lower minimum temperatures in mid to late August (southern hemisphere). The percentage of narrow-split nuts was decreased by higher maximum temperatures across almost the whole growing season. Damaged-shell nuts were reduced by higher average daily minimum temperatures between 26 Nov. and 3 Feb. The technique of r contour mapping is shown to have potential as a way to provide early warning of possible quality problems before harvest and as a means of generating hypotheses for future physiological studies

AbstractVanková V., Petluš P.: Water temperature influence on selected properties of surface river water throughout the year (river Nitra). Ekológia (Bratislava), Vol. 33, No. 2, p. 151-159, 2014.Assessment of chosen surface water properties was realised as a part of broader research on environmental aspects of urban environment. Analyses of selected physical and chemical water properties, oxygen and temperature regime, neutralisation capacity, selected nutrients and measurements of air temperature was done in monthly intervals during 2012 at three localities. Two of the assessed localities are at river Nitra: Nitra Communal Services and housing estate Chrenová I. The third locality is the oxbow lake of Malá Hangócka river at Nitra City Park. We have assessed the volume of oxygen concentration (O2, mg/l) and oxygen regime, phosphates (P-PO4 -3, mg/l), ammoniac nitrogen (N-NH4 +, mg/l), nitrites (N-NO2 -, mg/l), pH and water temperature (°C) from the collected samples. Out of these analyses the values of the above mentioned indicators, their annual fluctuation and water quality of observed localities were obtained. The influence of human activities on water properties and its quality was further assessed. Statistical methods such as two-factor dispersion analysis without replication and correlation coefficient were applied to validate the correlation of selected surface water properties, water and air temperature and to compare observed localities.
