AbstractThere is a lack of data about oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among the parents of pre-school children, especially in Lithuania and the relationships among socio-economic status, oral care habits and OHRQoL. Research questions: is OHRQoL influenced by socioeconomic status or oral care habits? Research focus – oral health-related quality of life among the parents of pre-school children. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships among socioeconomic status, oral care habits and oral helath-related quality of life among the parents of pre-school children in Klaipeda. The study sample consisted of 375 parents (mother or father) of pre-school children. The questionnaire survey was conducted at randomly selected 23 kindergartens in Klaipeda city. The questionnaire consisted of sociodemographic and oral care habits questions. All the participants were examined by self-administered OIDP questionnaire, which measured oral impacts on physical, psychological and social aspects of daily performances. The highest overall impact on OHRQoL among the parents of pre-school children was observed in the domain of Carrying out major work or role (73.0), the lowest one in the Eating and enjoying food (25.74) domain. Mean OIDP score was significantly higher among the parents whose socioeconomic status was low (35.44), reflecting poorer OHRQoL, as compared with high (8.07) socioeconomic status. Parents with poor oral care habits significantly more frequently were affected (79.2%) in Smiling, laughing domain, as compared to the parents whose oral care habits were good (20.8%). Lower socioeconomic status and poorer oral care habits were related with worsened oral health-related quality of life, especially in the area of psychological performances.

Background: Oral complications of chemotherapy are sometimes unnoticed and if not treated, they can compromise patients? health and quality of life. Methods: This study aimed to assess and characterize orofacial complaints and complications, and their impact on the oral-health-related quality of life in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy. Results: We evaluated 28 patients with solid tumors undergoing chemotherapy, through a systematic orofacial evaluation. Eighteen patients (64.2%) developed oral complications during chemotherapy and xerostomia scored the highest incidence n = 14 (50%). About oral health data, gingival index revealed greater part of patients classified with moderate or severe gingival inflammation. The mean plaque index was 25.6%. The mean CPOD index was 15.48 and was worse in patients without oral complications. The patients presented higher plaque index and the oral health impact profile showed higher mean index in the patients group that developed oral complications. Conclusion: These data reinforce the crucial role of the dentist in the multidisciplinary team, with crucial suport in the diagnosis of oral complications. Thus, a specific assistance and relieve of patient?s complaints could impact positively on quality of life.

The health of teeth and the oral cavity affects people’s quality of life, as it interferes with the ability to eat, communicate, aesthetics and prevent other diseases. The aim of this research is to identify the profile of users of oral health services in basic health units in the municipality of Comendador Levy Gasparian/RJ. The study population was composed of all users of the dental service of the municipality and the sample size for collection used a nonparametric sampling of the type for convenience. The research was carried out using the quantitative approach and data analysis using Descriptive Statistics. To facilitate analysis and compression, graphs were constructed with univary and bidata data. The results showed women, young people, the elderly, people of the yellow race and patients with Higher Education represent groups that least use the dental services of the municipality and strategies that attract such audiences can increase access to the service. The units near the urban center of the municipality received a larger number of participants.
