Abstract Background: To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on the presence of IL-1β polymorphisms in patients with peri-implantitis (PI). PI is the main complication associated to dental implant therapy. Although its main risk factors are history of periodontitis, poor plaque control and lack of regular maintenance, genetic susceptibility could also be a determinant factor for its appearance. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) are small mutations of the DNA, that alter the osseointegration of implants. Interleukin 1β (IL-1β) is an inflammatory protein that participates in both destruction of the extracellular matrix and reabsorption of the alveolar bone.Methods: A bibliographical research was made in PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science (keywords: "single nucleotide polymorphism", “polymorphism”, "periimplantitis", "SNP" and "implant failure"). Results: There is no significant relation between of IL-1β (+3953) SNP and PI, but there is a statistically significant association of peri-implant bone loss with the homozygotic model of IL-1β (-511) (I2=0%, p=0.555; OR: 2.255; IC: 1.040-4.889)Conclusions: Absence of a strong link between of IL-1β polymorphisms and PI must be taken with caution due to the heterogeneous methodological design, sample size and diagnostic criteria of the studies. Thus, more well-designed studies are needed, that analyse the relationship between IL-1β polymorphism and PI.

Abstract The purpose of this article was to review current literature on peri-operative pain management in hip arthroscopy. A systematic review of the literature on pain control in hip arthroscopy published January 2008 to December 2018 was performed. Inclusion criteria consisted of English language or articles with English translations, subjects undergoing hip arthroscopy with documented peri-operative pain control protocols in studies reporting Level I to IV evidence. Exclusion criteria were non-English articles, animal studies, prior systematic review or meta-analyses, studies not reporting peri-operative pain control protocols, studies documenting only pediatric (<18 years of age) patients, studies with Level V evidence and studies including less than five subjects. Statistical analysis was performed to assess pain protocols on narcotic consumption in PACU, VAS score on discharge, time to discharge from PACU and incidence of complications. Seventeen studies were included, comprising 1674 patients. Nerve blocks were administered in 50% of patients (n = 838 of 1674), of which 88% (n = 740 of 838) received a pre-operative block while 12% (n = 98 of 838) post-operative block. Sixty-eight complications were recorded: falls (54%, n = 37), peripheral neuritis (41%, n = 28), seizure (1.5%, n = 1), oxygen desaturation and nausea (1.5%, n = 1) and epidural spread resulting in urinary retention (1.5%, n = 1). No significant differences in narcotic consumption, VAS score at discharge, time until discharge or incidence of complication was found based on pain control modality utilized. No statistically significant difference in PACU narcotic utilization, VAS pain scores at discharge, time to discharge or incidence of complications was found between peri-operative pain regimens in hip arthroscopy.

Background: The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyze the periodontal behavior around teeth prepared with horizontal finishing crowns supporting fixed metal-ceramic and zirconia full coverage crowns and fixed partial dentures (FDPs). Materials and methods: An electronic search was conducted to locate relevant clinical trials in four databases: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Scopus. A manual search was made in the reference sections of the articles identified for any additional articles. No restrictions were applied regarding year of publication or language. The following variables were considered in quantitative and qualitative analysis: probing pocket depth (PPD); probing attachment level (PAL); plaque control record (PCR); bleeding on probing (BOP); and gingival margin migration. Results: Twenty articles were selected for qualitative synthesis, and of these, nine underwent meta-analysis. Higher PCR was found in control teeth, while BOP, PPD, and PAL were higher around teeth prepared with horizontal finishing lines supporting complete coverage crowns/FDPs Gingival migration results were the clearest manifestation of compromised periodontal health around teeth prepared with horizontal finishing lines. Conclusions: Meta-analysis revealed that teeth prepared with horizontal finishing lines supporting crowns and FDPs present more periodontal disorders than untreated control teeth.
