UNSTRUCTURED Backgrounds: Dengue fever (DF) is an important public health issue in Asia. However, the disease is extremely hard to detect using traditional dichotomous (i.e., absent vs. present) evaluations of symptoms. Convolution neural network (CNN), a well-established deep learning method, can improve prediction accuracy on account of its usage of a large number of parameters for modeling. Whether the HT person fit statistic can be combined with CNN to increase the prediction accuracy of the model and develop an application (APP) to detect DF in children remains unknown. Objectives: The aim of this study is to build a model for the automatic detection and classification of DF with symptoms to help patients, family members, and clinicians identify the disease at an early stage. Methods: We extracted 19 feature variables of DF-related symptoms from 177 pediatric patients (69 diagnosed with DF) using CNN to predict DF risk. The accuracy of two sets of characteristics (19 symptoms and four other variables, including person mean, standard deviation, and two HT-related statistics matched to DF+ and DF−) for predicting DF, were then compared. Data were separated into training and testing sets, and the former was used to predict the latter. We calculated the sensitivity (Sens), specificity (Spec), and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) across studies for comparison. Results: We observed that (1) the 23-item model yields a higher accuracy rate (0.95) and AUC (0.94) than the 19-item model (accuracy = 0.92, AUC = 0.90) based on the 177-case training set; (2) the Sens values are almost higher than the corresponding Spec values (90% in 10 scenarios) for predicting DF; (3) the Sens and Spec values of the 23-item model are consistently higher than those of the 19-item model. An APP was subsequently designed to detect DF in children. Conclusion: The 23-item model yielded higher accuracy rates (0.95) and AUC (0.94) than the 19-item model (accuracy = 0.92, AUC = 0.90). An APP could be developed to help patients, family members, and clinicians discriminate DF from other febrile illnesses at an early stage.

Abstract Although the collage art technique has been introduced as a psychotherapeutic method, it has not been fully applied in dementia. Objectives: To analyze characteristics of the collage articles produced by patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods: Twenty AD patients were asked to select and place several clippings as they wished. The MMSE was used for cognitive assessments. Results: Simplification and poor organization in their articles were found. The themes of one patient were found to change according to behavior. We discussed the images of the articles, especially spiritual images in the early stage and family images in the later stage. Conclusions: We concluded that the collage technique could provide new perspectives for dementia patients by exploring messages from their inner world.

With the global trend toward an aging population, the increasing number of dementia patients and elderly living alone has emerged as a serious social issue in South Korea. The assessment of activities of daily living (ADL) is essential for diagnosing dementia. However, since the assessment is based on the ADL questionnaire, it relies on subjective judgment and lacks objectivity. Seven healthy seniors and six with early-stage dementia participated in the study to obtain ADL data. The derived ADL features were generated by smart home sensors. Statistical methods and machine learning techniques were employed to develop a model for auto-classifying the normal controls and early-stage dementia patients. The proposed approach verified the developed model as an objective ADL evaluation tool for the diagnosis of dementia. A random forest algorithm was used to compare a personalized model and a non-personalized model. The comparison result verified that the accuracy (91.20%) of the personalized model was higher than that (84.54%) of the non-personalized model. This indicates that the cognitive ability-based personalization showed encouraging performance in the classification of normal control and early-stage dementia and it is expected that the findings of this study will serve as important basic data for the objective diagnosis of dementia.

Abstract Family members are primarily responsible for the care of loved ones with dementia. Family support and living with people with dementia are cultural norms that are expected in Indonesia, where family members with dementia are considered family responsibilities that must be fulfilled. The purpose of this study: to find out Family Support for Dementia sufferers. Quantitative descriptive with cross sectional design. The study was conducted in the city of Bandung with a population of 41 respondents and a sample of (n = 41) primary caregivers / families who care for dementia patients, sampling with total sampling. Family support based on education in the good category (68.3%) and not good 13 respondents (31.7%), emotional factors in the good category 26 respondents (63.4%) and not good 15 respondents (36, 6%), based on spiritual in the good category of 24 respondents (58.5%) and not good 17 respondents (43.9%), social and psychological factors are in the good category 26 respondents (63.4%) and not good 15 respondents (36.6%), and the last indicator of economic factors was in the good category of 25 respondents (61.0%) and not good 16 respondents (39.0%). Family support is very important to improve the quality of life of people with dementia, namely support based on educational, psychological / emotional, spiritual, social and environmental and economic factors. The aim of the study is to solve the questions that an unprepared relative faces about how to assess the condition of their sick relative and their possibilities in caring for him/her. Results. The study made it possible to determine that 60% of the respondents had a burnout syndrome formed at the time of the survey, and 39% were in the stage of its formation. Conclusion. Dementia affects not only the person who is ill, but the whole family. The greatest burden is borne by those caring for the patient. It is necessary to think how to deal with stress. Having sorted out one’s own emotions, one can more effectively cope with both the patient’s problems and the surrounding problems.

This article is based on a qualitative longitudinal study that followed the subjective experiences of both people living with dementia and their family members during the early stages of the illness. The purpose of this article is to describe and reflect on the ethical and methodological issues that occurred during data collection. The article focuses on the situation of the person with dementia and the family member and the role of the researcher when conducting the research interviews. Based on the results of this study, conducting research interviews with people with dementia and their family members poses several ethical and methodological challenges that must be addressed. In doing so, ethically sound dementia-specific research methods will be actively developed enhancing our understanding of living with dementia and providing new insights into the care of people with dementia and their family members.
