The formulation and solution of a boundary value problem is presented, describing the influence of the free convective diffusion on the forced one to a sphere for a wide range of Rayleigh, Ra, and Peclet, Pe, numbers. It is assumed that both the free and forced convection are oriented in the same sense. Numerical results obtained by the method of finite differences were approximated by an empirical formula based on an analytically derived asymptotic expansion for Pe → ∞. The concentration gradient at the surface and the total diffusion current calculated from the empirical formula agree with those obtained from the numerical solution within the limits of the estimated errors.

Abstract Previous work has explored the connections between three concepts — operator size, complexity, and the bulk radial momentum of an infalling object — in the context of JT gravity and the SYK model. In this paper we investigate the higher dimensional generalizations of these connections. We use a toy model to study the growth of an operator when perturbing the vacuum of a CFT. From circuit analysis we relate the operator growth to the rate of increase of complexity and check it by complexity-volume duality. We further give an empirical formula relating complexity and the bulk radial momentum that works from the time that the perturbation just comes in from the cutoff boundary, to after the scrambling time.

This research aims to assess the pedestrian comfort and to control human-induced vibration of an arch tower cable-stayed bridge without backstays located in canyon. Dynamic simulations of human-induced vibration were carried out with a mode-by-mode approach, and the results indicated that a total of seven lateral and vertical modes of the bridge may suffer from excessive vibrations at the design crowd density. Based on the periodic walking force, the structure response under pedestrian loads was evaluated performing dynamic analyses with two Finite Element models of the footbridge. A single tuned mass damper (STMD) control system was developed for control of human-induced vibration, which consisted of four tuned mass dampers mounted on the mid-span of bridge to enhance damping ratios of lively modes. The results indicate that the maximum acceleration for the first-order lateral and second-order vertical vibration at the design crowd density exceed the associated threshold values referring to the comfort level 1 (CL1) Criteria. The critical pedestrian number of lateral dynamic instability estimated by the Dallard’s empirical formula is much smaller than the dynamic design pedestrian number; and the Dallard’s empirical formula is applicable to estimate the critical pedestrian number of lateral dynamic instability for this bridge by comparing with Pedroe Inês footbridge. The damping ratios for both the vertical and lateral modes increase appreciably after installing the tuned mass dampers and no evidence of large-amplitude vibrations has been observed, leading to the realization of satisfactory comfort levels, which can provide reference for vibration reduction design of this kind of bridge.

Chirvinskyite, (Na,Ca)13(Fe,Mn,□)2(Ti,Nb)2(Zr,Ti)3(Si2O7)4(OH,O,F)12, is a new wöhlerite–related zirconotitano–sorosilicate. It is triclinic, P1, a = 7.0477(5), b = 9.8725(5), c = 12.2204(9) Å, α = 77.995(5), β = 82.057(6), γ = 89.988(5)°, V = 823.35(9) Å3, Z = 1. The mineral was found in albitized alkaline pegmatites in a foyaite of the Mt. Takhtarvumchorr (Khibiny alkaline massif, Kola Peninsula, Russia, N 67°40’, E 33°33’). Chirvinskyite forms sheaf–like and radiated aggregates (up to 6 mm in diameter) of split fibrous crystals hosted by saccharoidal fluorapatite and albite. The mineral is pale cream in color, with a silky luster and a white streak. The cleavage is not recognized. Mohs hardness is 5. Chirvinskyite is biaxial (–), α 1.670(2), β 1.690(2), γ 1.705(2) (589 nm), 2Vcalc = 80.9°. The calculated and measured densities are 3.41 and 3.07(2) g·cm−3, respectively. The empirical formula based on Si = 8 apfu is (Na9.81Ca3.28K0.01)∑13.10(Fe0.72Mn0.69□0.54Mg0.05)∑2.00 (Ti1.81Nb0.19)∑2.00(Zr2.27Ti0.63)∑2.90(Si2O7)4{(OH)5.94O3.09F2.97}∑12.00. Chirvinskyite belongs to a new structure type of minerals and inorganic compounds and is related to the wöhlerite-group minerals. Its modular “wallpaper” structure consists of disilicate groups Si2O7 and three types of “octahedral walls”. The mineral is named in honor of Petr Nikolaevich Chirvinsky (1880–1955), Russian geologist and petrographer, head of the Petrography Department of the Perm’ State University (1943–1953), for his contributions to mineralogy and petrology, including studies of the Khibiny alkaline massif.

The remote sensing measurement of the surface SiO2content has important geological significance .An empirical formula for estimate SiO2content was established based on the correlation between ASTER thermal infrared data and tested Si element from NITON sites in Abra, Australia. The average error of estimated SiO2content is about 15%. ASTER silica alteration derived from SiO2content has good indicative function to find galena. Combined with other prospecting factors as bouger gravity, transient electromagnetic and so on, three vision prospecting targets were optimized, which need more exploration works.
