Henan Yellow River floodplain is the area for flood flowing, flood detention and sand sediment; it is also necessary for the production and living. With the rapid economic development along the Yellow River, floodplain development is increasing, occupying some land and water area. Due to the lack of unified planning, they have brought certain difficulties to flood control management and scientific decision-making. This paper first proposed specific superposition scope and calculation method for projects within river courses. Compared with the previous single calculation of backwater and scouring, it more truly, accurately reflect the actual situation of projects within river courses.

Quantitative estimation of groundwater recharge is crucial for limited water resources management. A combination of isotopic and chemical indicators has been used to evaluate the relationship between surface water, groundwater, and rainfall around the riparian of the Yellow River in the North China Plain (NCP). The ion molar ratio of sodium to chloride in surface- and groundwater is 0.6 and 0.9, respectively, indicating cation exchange of Ca2+ and/or Mg2+ for Na+ in groundwater. The δD and δ18O values in rainfall varied from −64.4 to −33.4‰ and from −8.39 to −4.49‰. The groundwater samples have δD values in the range of −68.7 to −58.0‰ and δ18O from −9.29 to −6.85‰. The δ18O and δD in surface water varied from −8.51 to −7.23‰ and from −64.42 to −53.73‰. The average values of both δD and δ18O from surface water are 3.92‰ and 0.57‰, respectively, higher compared to groundwater. Isotopic composition indicated that the groundwater in the riparian area of the Yellow River was influenced by heavy rainfall events and seepage of surface water. The mass balance was applied for the first time to estimate the amount of recharge, which is probably 6% and 94% of the rainfall and surface water, respectively.

Traditional rural settlements are the result of a long historical accumulation in the Yellow River Floodplain of North of Henan. The formation and development of spatial form of the settlements is influenced by several dynamic factors, such as the local economic, social, cultural, historical, natural and geographic environment. Currently, the rural urbanization of the region is in an accelerated phase, thus the spatial restructure and social transformation is ongoing. However, the spatial form of the settlements gets affected by many negative effects. Just based on the concerns about the effects, the article first analyzes the dynamic factors of influencing the spatial form of the settlements in the region, then analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of spatial form of the settlements through field research, satellite image extracting and so on in the region, hoping to have a positive reference to the new rural community construction and the development of traditional rural settlements in future.
