The present study attempted to: (1) simplify the existing enzyme immunoassay (EIA) for the measurement of insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) concentrations in goats (2) to measure circulating INSL3 and testosterone in pre-pubertal Jamnapari X local crossbred goats (3) to examine the relationships among INSL3 concentration, testosterone concentration, scrotal circumference and body weight during the pre-pubertal age. Serial blood samples were collected from normal pre-pubertal male Jamnapari X local crossbred goats (n = 6) at the ages of 19 to 28 weeks. Serum INSL3 was measured using a recently reported EIA with modifications to the original procedure. The detection ranges of the INSL3 and testosterone assays were 0.08 to 80 ng/mL and 0.01 to 40 ng/mL, respectively. The intra-assay coefficient of variations were 3.79% for INSL3 (n = 6) and 3.72% (n = 6) for testosterone. Serum INSL3 concentrations ranged from 13.62 ± 3.25 to 22.45 ± 6.09 ng/mL (mean ± SEM) in pre-pubertal goats. Those concentrations increased (p < 0.05) from 20 (13.62 ± 3.25 ng/mL) to 22 (22.45 ± 6.09 ng/mL) weeks of age. Testosterone concentrations ranged from 0.30 ± 0.07 to 1.22 ± 0.43 ng/mL in pre-pubertal goats. A significant drop was observed in testosterone concentrations at 23 weeks of age. INSL3 was correlated (r = 0.58; p < 0.05) with scrotal circumference while no significant correlation was observed among other tested parameters. A rapid, sensitive EIA system was simplified to quantify INSL3 in goats, by simplifying the existing procedure. Different serum INSL3 and testosterone dynamics were found from 19 to 28 weeks of age of the goats. Compared with testosterone, INSL3 dynamics seemed to be more consistent with the age of pre-pubertal goats and showed a relationship with the testicular growth. Asian J. Med. Biol. Res. The aim of the present study is to prepare ethanol extract of Pomegranate peel and the effects of this extract on testicular weight to body weight ratio, Serum cholesterol, testosterone concentration and histopathological changes of testes in rabbits treated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). Twenty four adult male rabbits were used. They were divided randomly into four equal groups. Animals were treated for 56 days as following: Rabbits of the 1st group were received 1 ml distal water orally once a day and olive oil 0.5 ml /kg B.W. I.P twice a week as control group. The second group were treated I.P with 500mg / kg B.W. of CCl4 mixing with equal volume of olive oil (0.5 ml/kg B.W.) twice a week (group T1). The third group was received pomegranate peel extract orally (100 mg/kg B.W) once a day and olive oil 0.5 ml /kg B.W. I.P twice a week (group T2). The fourth group were received pomegranate peel extract (100 mg/kg B.W) once a day oral I.P with 500 mg / kg B.W. of CCl4 mixing with equal volume of olive oil (o.5 ml/kg B.W.) twice a week (group T3). Blood samples were collected at (0, 14, 28, 42 and 56) days for measuring testosterone concentration, Serum cholesterol after treatments. Animals weighed and scarified and testis were removed and weighed, Samples of testis were taken for histopathological study. The results of the present study showed that treatment with pomegranate peel extract causes a significant (P>0.05) increase in testicular weight to body weight ratio. Also a significant (P>0.05) decreased of serum cholesterol and a significantly (P>0.05) elevation of testosterone concentration were observed. Histopathological examination of the testis was revealed that the extract of Pomegranate peel protect the testis against lesions caused by CCl4. In conclusion, Pomegranate peel extract could protect the tissue of testicles from CCl4 perhaps, by its anti-oxidative effect of pomegranate peel extract, hence eliminating the deleterious effects or toxic effect of CCl4.

Abstract We evaluated whether the GnRH application induces the sexual behavior of Dorper rams in northern Mexico (26º N). Rams (n = 12) were divided into 2 homogenous groups (n = 6 each) in body weight (80.0 ± 2.8 kg) and a body condition of (3.3 ± 0.2 units, scale of 1–5). One group (GnRH) received 100 Μ g of GnRH i.m., every 3 d x 1 week, while the other (CONT) received 0.5 ml of physiological saline solution every 3 d x 1 week. At the end of the treatments, rams were subjected to a sexual behavior test by exposing each male to one estrus female during both appetitive (ASB, anogenital sniffing, approaching, kicking, vocalizations) and consummatory (CSB: unsheathing, mount attempt, full mount, mount with unsheathing and mount with ejaculation) sexual behaviors where registered. The CSA and CSC behavior frequencies were compared by a χ 2 test (SYSTAT 12). Both ASB and CSB behaviors favored (P &lt; 0.05) to the GnRH rams; ASB 77% vs 23% and CSB 76% vs 23%. A demonstration of GnRH in Dorper rams in northern Mexico (26 ° N) induced sexual behavior; this should be of interest to enhance the out-of-season reproductive outcomes in the sheep industry.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a widespread estrogenic compound. We investigated the effects of maternal exposure to BPA at reference doses on sexual behavior and neuroendocrine functions of female offspring in C57BL/6J mice. The dams were orally exposed to vehicle alone or vehicle-containing BPA at doses equivalent to the no observed adverse effect level (5 mg/kg body weight per day) and tolerable daily intake (TDI, 0.05 mg/kg body weight per day) level from gestational day 15 until weaning. Developmental exposure to BPA increased the lordosis quotient in naive females exposed to BPA at the TDI dose only. BPA exposure had no effect on olfactory preference, ability to express masculine behaviors or number of calbindin-positive cells, a sexually dimorphic population of the preoptic area. BPA at both doses selectively increased kisspeptin cell number in the preoptic periventricular nucleus of the rostral periventricular area of the third ventricle in adult females. It did not affect the number of GNRH-positive cells or percentage of kisspeptin appositions on GNRH neurons in the preoptic area. These changes were associated with higher levels of estradiol (E2) at the TDI dose while levels of LH, estrus cyclicity, ovarian and uterine weights, and fertility remained unaffected. Delay in the time of vaginal opening was observed during the postnatal period at TDI dose, without any alteration in body growth. This shows that developmental exposure to BPA at reference doses did not masculinize and defeminize the neural circuitry underlying sexual behavior in female mice. The TDI dose specifically exacerbated responses normally induced by ovarian E2, through estrogen receptor α, during the postnatal/prepubertal period.

The present study had the objective of evaluating the physical and testicular development, and the serum testosterone concentration of 8 to 18 months old male Brahman cattle on grazing weight gaining performance tests. Bovine cattle (n=40), aged 259.76 ± 26.15 days and weighing 239.71 ± 33,94kg had the following characteristics evaluated every 56 days, corresponding to 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 months of age (six different data collections): body weight (BW), scrotal circumference (SC), girth (G), height at the withers (WH), body length (BL), body mass index (BMI), right and left testicular length (RTL and LTL, respectively), right and left testicular height (RTH and LTH, respectively), average daily weight gain (ADG), testicular volume (TV), and serum testosterone (ST).Analysis of variance and Tukey's test at 5% probability were used. Correlations between variables were assessed using Pearson's method at 5% confidence. There was significant difference (P < 0.05) from 12 months of age onwards for ADG and ST. There were differences (P < 0.05) for: BW, SC, G, WH, BL, BMI, RTL, LTL, RTH,and TV from 14 months of age. There was a positive correlation between: ST x G (r=0.38; P < 0.01); ST x WH (r=0.38; P < 0.01); ST xRTH (r=0.23; P < 0.05); ST x LTH (r=0.21; P < 0.01); ST x TV (r=0.22; P < 0.008); TV x weight (r=0.70; P < 0.01); TV x SC (r=0.90; P < 0.01); and TV x BMI (r=0.93; P < 0.01). A rapid increase in serum testosterone concentration occurred between 12 and 14 months of age, followed by rapid body and testicular growth. An elevation in testosterone levels is an indirect indicator that an acceleration inphysical and testicular growth is approaching. It is recommended to calculate both BMI and TV to follow cattle growth due to the high correlation between these variables.
