As widespread products of folk culture, proverbs help people realize and interpret both their own and others' emotions. In this sense, they guide how people transform acquired knowledge into behavior. This function of proverbs is explained in terms of emotional intelligence. Turkish proverbs appear to be an extremely rich source in this respect. I therefore examined them using Goleman's (1995) model of emotional intelligence. Data were collected using two Turkish dictionaries and the findings were analyzed using semantic content analysis. I explored whether or not and how proverbs improve the mental abilities that form emotional intelligence. The effects of the emotional functions of Turkish proverbs on personal and social life are discussed.

Organic farming in the Spanish region of Andalusia has acquired great socio-economic importance over the past decades. The purpose of this article is to study the themes, approaches, and socio-political values pertaining to ecological agriculture addressed in the Andalusian plans for organic farming (2002–2016). The contents of these plans have not been systematically studied before. From a descriptive and qualitative perspective, the authors present and classify the main themes addressed in those plans and show the socio-political approaches and values that underpin the plans. A thematic and semantic content analysis methodology is applied to the plans and sections addressing various objectives, measures, and actions. A theoretical-qualitative sampling is developed, and 109 keywords are selected for content analysis. This analysis allows us to detect numerous themes pertaining to ecological agriculture and to classify them into six semantic fields linked to various approaches and values promoted by the Andalusian autonomous administration. Therefore, this research focuses on changing perspectives of organic farming developed by the administration and the agents involved in the plans. The authors conclude that the diverse actors have prioritized a productivist–technocratic approach to ecological agriculture, to the detriment of an approach centered on sustainable and agroecological local communities.

Objective of the article is to examine the representation of the mental concept "persistence" in the media discourse. Applied methods: The research is carried out within the framework of the linguo-cognitive approach to linguistic phenomena. The features of the key representative lexeme of the concept "persistence" in subject-predicate syntactic relations are considered on the material of the National Corpus of the Russian language. Results. Research shows that in speech contexts, the lexeme "persistence" mainly expresses two interrelated semantic categories: a character trait and a type of behavior. A significant place in the content of the concept "persistence" is occupied by pragmatic and evaluative cognitive features. In expressing the volitional quality of a person, the emphasis is on the positive-evaluative connotation of the concept under study. Thus, perseverance is considered necessary for various fields of activity. This trait often leads to positive results, evokes positive emotions and feelings in people. In case of designating such behaviors as persistent upholding of one's position, avoiding compromise, etc., in the structure of the concept "persistence", mainly cognitive features with a negative evaluative connotation are distinguished: "incomprehensible, inexplicable and strange behavior", "a factor that interferes that hinders, complicates the implementation of something. " Conclusion. The analysis of the compatibility of the lexeme "persistence" with verbs in the constructions "subject-predicate" on the material of newspaper texts allows us to reveal various aspects of the semantic content of the concept.

The aims of this research were to describe experiential meaning variation of English BBC news texts (T1) and Bahasa Indonesia BBC news texts (T2) which were functional grammatically represented in transitivity clause units, to identify the factors that cause the experiential meaning breadth variation of T1-T2, and to map the context of highest variation of T1-T2. This qualitative research applied semantic content analysis of experiential meaning with the researcher as research instrument. The results of this study show that experiential meaning variation of T1-T2 is dominated by highest scale of variation. Transfer-based perspective includes T2 as bad translation, while hermeneutic-based includes T2 as a good translation. Experiential meaning breadth variation of T1-T2 are mainly caused by the ideology of translation of BBC and translators involved in translation process that allows adjustment to the new readership and to the naturalness of the use of Indonesian language to occur. The constrictions of experiential meaning breadth variation mostly are caused by the addition of clause-rank meaning units which are not part of T1 and the existence of summary and/or synthesis of some T1 clause-rank meaning units.
