A direct Selective current harmonic elimination pulse width modulation technique is proposed for induction motor drive fed from voltage source inverter. The developed adaptive filtering algorithm for the selective current harmonic elimination in a three phase Voltage Source Inverter is a direct method to improve the line current quality of the Voltage Source Inverter base drive at any load condition. The self-adaptive algorithm employed has the capability of managing the time varying nature of load (current). The proposed Normalized Least Mean Squares algorithm based scheme eliminates the selected dominant harmonics in load current using only the knowledge of the frequencies to be eliminated. The algorithm is simulated using Matlab/Simulink tool for a three-phase Voltage Source Inverter to eliminate the fifth and seventh harmonics. The system performance is analyzed based on the simulation results considering total harmonic distortion, magnitude of eliminated harmonics and harmonic spectrum. The corroboration is done in the designed Voltage Source Inverter feeding induction motor using digital signal processor-TMS320L2812.The developed algorithm is transferred to digital signal processor using VisSim<sup>TM</sup> software.

The issue of interfering influence of traction vehicles on railway traffic control systems is a serious problem posing a threat to railway traffic safety. This issue is gaining in importance as more and more vehicles equipped with traction inverters are put into service. Current harmonics generated by traction vehicles equipped with voltage source inverters can be controlled in such a way that they do not exceed the limits imposed by railway operators. One of the current harmonic control techniques, proposed by the authors, is the use of a combination of SHE (Selective Harmonic Elimination) and SHM (Selective Harmonic Mitigation) techniques to control the traction voltage source inverter. In this article, the author present the results of investigations on the influence of supply voltage fluctuations on the efficiency of shaping techniques of the current harmonic spectra taken from the DC network by VSI traction drive system, using the SHE and SHM modulation techniques. Regarding the fact that in 3 kV DC electric traction systems, fluctuations of the vehicle's supplying voltage are accepted in a wide range, it is necessary to determine the influence of voltage changes on the proposed modulation techniques. The research object is a simulation model of traction drive which consisting of an asynchronous motor fed by a voltage source inverter. The simulation model was verified by the means of measurements performed at a low scale laboratory stand. Analysis of the tested techniques when supplying voltage is fluctuating, allows to evaluate their usefulness in real operating conditions. The results obtained for SHE and SHM techniques were compared with SPWM modulation.

Objective:This paper analyses the Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) topology, where each individual Sub Module (SM), in half bridge configuration, is directly fed by an elementary electrochemical cell.Methods:The aim is to investigate how the reference voltages influence the cells currents waveforms, determining how the active powers and the losses are distributed among the cells. Considering a 2-level Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) topology working in the same conditions, the ratio between the MMC total cells losses and VSI total cells losses is calculated. After showing the system architecture and mathematical model, the cells current waveform investigation is presented and detailed both for triangular and sinusoidal voltage reference waveform.Results:Finally, the results are critically discussed with particular focus on the comparison between the MMC and the VSI topologies.
