In solar photovoltaic (PV)-based DC microgrid systems, the voltage output of the classical DC–DC converter produces very less voltage as a result of poor voltage gain. Therefore, cascaded DC–DC boost converters are mandatory for boosting the voltage to match the DC microgrid voltage. However, the number of devices utilized in the DC–DC conversion stage becomes higher and leads to more losses. Thereby, it affects the system efficiency and increases the complication of the system and cost. In order to overcome this drawback, a novel double-boost DC–DC converter is proposed to meet the voltage in DC microgrid. Also, this paper discusses the detailed operation of maximum power point (MPP) tracking techniques in the novel double-boost DC–DC converter topology. The fundamental [Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text] characteristics of solar photovoltaic system, operational details of MPP execution and control strategies for double-boost DC/DC converter are described elaborately. The proposed converter operation and power injection into the DC microgrid are verified through the real-time PSCAD simulation and the validation is done through the experiment with hardware module which is indistinguishable with the simulation platform.

<span>The main components of a Stand-Alone Photovoltaic (SAPV) system consists of PV array, DC-DC converter, load and the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control algorithm. MPPT algorithm was used for extracting maximum available power from PV module under a particular environmental condition by controlling the duty ratio of DC-DC converter. Based on maximum power transfer theorem, by changing the duty cycle, the load resistance as seen by the source is varied and matched with the internal resistance of PV module at maximum power point (MPP) so as to transfer the maximum power. Under sudden changes in solar irradiance, the selection of MPPT algorithm’s sampling time (TS_MPPT) is very much depends on two main components of the converter circuit namely; inductor and capacitor. As the value of these components increases, the settling time of the transient response for PV voltage and current will also increase linearly. Consequently, TS_MPPT needs to be increased for accurate MPPT and therefore reduce the tracking speed. This work presents a design considerations of DC-DC Boost Converter used in SAPV system for fast and accurate MPPT algorithm. The conventional Hill Climbing (HC) algorithm has been applied to track the MPP when subjected to sudden changes in solar irradiance. By selecting the optimum value of the converter circuit components, a fast and accurate MPPT especially during sudden changes in irradiance has been realized.</span>

This paper presents a comparison between a proportional-integral controller, low pass filters, and the linear quadratic regulator in dealing with the task of eliminating harmonic currents in the grid-connected photovoltaic system. A brief review of the existing methods applied to mitigate harmonic currents is presented. The Perturb & Observe technique was employed for maximum power point tracking. The PI control, low pass filters, and the linear quadratic regulator are discussed in detail in terms of their control strategies. The grid current was analyzed in the system with all three of the controllers applied to control the voltage source inverter of the solar photovoltaic system connected to the grid through an L filter and LCL filter and simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results obtained have proven the robustness of the linear quadratic regulator over other methods. The technique lowers the grid current total harmonic distortion from 7.85% to 2.13%.

In this paper, grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system is presented. PV system consists of a photovoltaic module, a boost converter, and voltage source inverter. ANFIS based ICM (Incremental Conductance Method) MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controller is utilized to produce gate signal for DC-DC boost converter. This controller is used for optimizing the total performance of the Photovoltaic system in turn the errors were reduced in Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). The grid-connected PV system performance is evaluated and har-monics occurred in the system are decreased. The proposed methodology is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink.
