Automation of Programming at the M.V. Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, Russian Academy of Sciences (KIAM RAS)

The work is devoted to mathematical simulation of laboratory experiments on the single-phase fluid displacement in synthetic porous samples. The basis of the mathematical model used is the system of poroelasticity equations in terms of the Biot's model, which implies that the processes of fluid filtration and the dynamics of changes in the stress-strain state of a continuous medium are considered together in the framework of a single coupled statement. For simulation, the software package developed at the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, Russian Academy of Sciences, was used. The laboratory experiments considered in this work were performed at the Institute of Geosphere Dynamics, Russian Academy of Sciences. The mathematical model used is briefly presented; the main computational algorithms and the features of their software implementation are described. A detailed description of the laboratory set-up, laboratory experiments themselves and their results are given. A significant part of the work is devoted to the problem statement description in terms of mathematical simulation. The results of calculations are presented; the calculated and experimentally observed dependencies are compared. The possible causes of the observed deviations are analyzed.

Abstract Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) is actively working to solve the problem of preventing Near-Earth Object (NEO) hazard. The article provides the goals and objectives of preventing NEO hazard, as well as ways to achieve them. The described ways of achieving the goal are applied in RAS best. The current state and prospects of the Russian contribution to the prevention of NEO hazard are considered. Statistical data on the dynamics of observation of minor planets by Russian telescopes is presented. The structure of the NEO part of hazardous situations classifier developed by Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics (KIAM RAS) and structure of perspective National System Security of space activities in outer space are presented, including the system’s response to event classified as dangerous. The article is accompanied by illustrations of potentially hazardous objects in the sky, made by telescopes of the International Network of Optical Telescopes (ISON), coordinated by the KIAM RAS.

The article considers current problems of Russia´s science. Special attention is paid to external factors that negatively influence its effectiveness including considerable lag in public management sector. The issues of opposing higher education sector to the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) are also discussed. A number of indicators of the Russian science and its academic sector effectiveness are presented. The expediency of comparing scientific results with R&D expenditures is shown. The problems connected with using bibliometric methods are discussed. Special attention is paid to the necessity of preserving and further developing Russian science including RAS.
