The social networks have become a main tool of the XXI century for personal presentation and promotion, connectivity with others, belonging to same ideology, area of expertise or culture. Beside all the exploitations made to the social networks, lets pose the question: Are social networks and social network medias pushed to their limits, are they manageable and do they give as maximal possibilities in using, managing and having all the knowledge stuffed in there and using it to benefit of our research? Combining the social networks with semantic web can enhance the process of education and research.

Abstract Objective – University libraries in Nigeria are facing challenges arising from poor funding, increasing user demands, and a competitive information environment. Knowledge management has been accepted by information professionals as a viable management tool, but issues surrounding its application require empirical investigation. The aim of this study is to determine the organizational factors that are correlates and predictors of knowledge management practices in federal university libraries in Nigeria. Methods – The study was based on a correlational research design. Twenty heads of university libraries in Nigeria responded to a structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. The questionnaire was validated by experts and its internal reliability was 0.78 obtained through Cronbach’s alpha procedures. The data collected were analyzed using Mean, Standard Deviation, One-Way ANOVA, Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, and regression analysis. Results – The study found that management support and collaboration were the most significant predictors of knowledge management practices in federal university libraries in Nigeria.  Even though human resources policy and rewards systems had positive correlations with knowledge management practices, their correlation coefficients were not significant. Conclusion – The success of knowledge management in university libraries in Nigeria depends on some contextual factors such as the support given by the management staff and the extent of collaboration among staff.

This paper shows the development of a functional architecture oriented Personal Knowledge Management (PKM), defined from the concept of lessons learned that are registered in a social network for mass use. This functional architecture applied in a practical implementation of a registration system for personal lessons learned in the cloud through a social network Facebook. The process begins with the acquisition of data from the connection to a non-relational database (NoSQL) in SimpleDB of Amazon Web Services and which you have set up a complementary analysis algorithm for semantic analysis of information recorded lessons learned and thus study the generation of Organizational Knowledge Management (OKM) from PKM. The final result is the design of a functional architecture that enables web 2.0 application integration and semantic analysis of an algorithm from unstructured information using machine learning techniques. Keywords: Management of knowledge, management of personal knowledge, lessons learned, semantic analysis, computing in the cloud, social networks.

The main objective of this research study is to investigate the extent to which knowledge management is used within the mining industry. Knowledge management includes the identification and examination of available and required knowledge and the subsequent planning and control of actions to develop knowledge assets to accomplish organizational objectives. A structured questionnaire is used for the study. A total of 300 mines were randomly selected from a research population of mining organizations in South Africa, Africa and globally. The respondents were all part of senior management. A response rate of 64% was achieved. A significant number of respondents indicates that there is no transfer of knowledge about the best practices within their organizations. Some of the participants indicate that their organizations do not have the required technical infrastructure to enable knowledge sharing whilst some agree that the culture in their organizations is not conducive to the sharing of knowledge. A statistically and practically significant positive relationship with a large effect is found between the construct of knowledge management and perceived business performance. The mining organizations in Africa are ranked the lowest in terms of applications of knowledge management principles
