We present a three-dimensional (3-D) particle-in-cell (PIC) model and parallel code for the self-consistent motion of charged ultrarelativistic beams (${\it\gamma}\sim 10^{3}{-}10^{5}$) in supercolliders. We use the 3-D set of Maxwell’s equations for the electromagnetic fields, and the Vlasov equation for the distribution function of the beam particles. The model incorporates automatically the longitudinal effects, which can play a significant role in the cases of super-high densities. We present numerical results for the dynamics of two focused ultrarelativistic beams with a size ratio 10:1:100. The results demonstrate high efficiency of the proposed computational methods and algorithms, which are applicable to a variety of problems in relativistic plasma physics.

Two models for a plane interface between a free electron metal and a concentrated solution of a surface inactive electrolyte are treated fully self-consistently, taking into account both the polarizability of the metallic electron cloud and the reorientation of solvent molecules. The interfacial capacity is calculated as a function of the electrode charge, and its dependence on various system parameters is investigated. Some conclusions on the structure of the interface are drawn from a comparison between our results and experimentally observed trends.

AbstractA self-consistent study of the formation of planetary bodies beyond the orbit of Saturn and the evolution of Kuiper disks is carried out by means of an N-body code where accretion and gravitational encounters are considered. This investigation is focused on the aggregation of massive bodies in the outer planetary region and on the consequences of such process in the corresponding cometary belt. We study the link between the bombardment of massive bodies and mass depletion and eccentricity excitation.

The scanning transmission electron microscope offers the possibility of utilizing inelastically scattered electrons. Use of these electrons in addition to the elastically scattered electrons should reduce the scanning time (dose) Which is necessary to keep the quantum noise below a certain level. Hence it should lower the radiation damage. For high resolution, Where the collection efficiency of elastically scattered electrons is small, the use of Inelastically scattered electrons should become more and more favorable because they can all be detected by means of a spectrometer. Unfortunately, the Inelastic scattering Is a non-localized interaction due to the electron-electron correlation, occurring predominantly at the circumference of the atomic electron cloud.
