We theoretically analyze the linear momentum density and orbital angular momentum (OAM) propagation characteristics of Gaussian vortex beams in free space, and perform detailed numerical simulation analysis of the linear momentum density and OAM propagation characteristics. Further, we study the variation of the propagation characteristics with different topological charges. In addition, we also analyzed the position of momentum in the transverse profile, where the momentum density of the spot will be broadened with propagation distance. This study can provide guidance for using vortex beams in optical communication and manipulation.

A dispersion equation is derived for a cylindrical waveguide of circular cross-section partially filled with chiroplasma. The propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves in the family of waveguide modes are studied. The dispersion curves are given. It is found that the propagation constant changes almost linearly with the chirality admittance for the parameters that we choose, and increases with increasing filled area.

We theoretically studied electromagnetic wave propagation in a one-dimensional metal/dielectric photonic crystal (1D MDPC) consisting of alternating metallic and dielectric materials by using the transfer matrix method. We performed numerical analyses to investigate the propagation characteristics of a 1D MDPC. We discuss the details of the calculated results in terms of the electron density, the thickness of the metallic layer, different kinds of metals, and the plasma frequency.
