A fiber Bragg grating can be worked as reflector, it is constructed in a short section of optical fiber that reflects light of specific wavelength and allow to pass remaining wavelengths. This is possible by creating a periodic change in refractive index within the fiber core. The change in the modal index of fiber caused due to strain results in a Bragg wavelength. This work describes performance of Fiber Bragg Gratings as a strain sensor at 1550nm wavelength is considered for simulation, corresponding dynamic strain and wavelength shifts are analysed. This performance analysis is useful especially for intrusion detection system where environments are harsh. This sensor is compatible with data communication system and can be used for remote sensing.

We propose here a new technique for simultaneous strain and temperature measurement using a Fiber Bragg Grating sensors. This technique employs an interferometric detection using two Fiber Bragg Gratings. A fiber Bragg grating is used as a reference while another fiber Bragg grating and a length of a bare fiber are used as the two sensing elements. As the temperature and strain change, the length of the sensing elements, (Fiber and Fiber Bragg Grating) change. These changes result in a phase and wavelength shifts. To measure these effects we use a Folded Mach Zhender interferometer, and a detection system made out of two photodiodes and data processing system. The sensitivity and dynamic range are analyzed and presented.

A recent report states that 63 percent of documented vulnerabilities exist in Web applications. Hence, Web applications represent an ideal platform for malicious attackers to target. This paper presents an anomaly intrusion detection system (AIWAS) to help system administrators protect their Web applications from these attacks. AIWAS maps each user’s input into an Instance Model (IM). The IM, which contains attackable features of the input, allows machine learning algorithms to classify the input as either benign or malicious. AIWAS then prevents malicious inputs from reaching the protected Web applications. A case study demonstrates the effectiveness of AIWAS against actual attacks.
