Would it be helpful to inform a driver about when a conflicting traffic situation is going to occur? We tested whether temporal orienting of attention could enhance executive control to select among conflicting stimuli and responses. Temporal orienting was induced by presenting explicit cues predicting the most probable interval for target onset, which could be short (400 ms) or long (1,300 ms). Executive control was measured both by flanker and Simon tasks involving conflict between incompatible responses and by the spatial Stroop task involving conflict between perceptual stimulus features. The results showed that temporal orienting facilitated the resolution of perceptual conflict by reducing the spatial Stroop effect, whereas it interfered with the resolution of response conflict by increasing flanker and Simon effects. Such opposite effects suggest that temporal orienting of attention modulates executive control through dissociable mechanisms, depending on whether the competition between conflicting representations is located at perceptual or response levels.

Car drivers' eye fixations were registered while driving a car on the road or when in the viewing a slide which showed the same traffic situation. Even when the subjects of the second group were instructed to observe the slide presented as if they were driving there, they fixated their eyes on well-defined targets with quite different frequencies than those motorists who actually drove the car on the road. Furthermore, prolonged fixation times were observed in the laboratory as compared to the road-driving condition. The magnitude of the obtained differences was rather great. The results suggest that the subjects on the road fixated more task-oriented targets and also picked up more information per time unit than their counterparts in the laboratory. The results are discussed in relation to the experimental design.

Emergency logistics system contains information on material reserves, emergency command and emergency distribution. In this paper, the aspect of emergency distribution only is analyzed in microscopic, mathematical model of emergency logistics distribution has been established in considering the traffic situation and shortage degree. On the aspect of model solution, improved ant colony algorithm, which can enhance the selectivity of finding the best solution in emergency logistics distribution routing, is used in solving the model.

Electronic road pricing is a prepaid road which is used to decrease the traffic volume with put on the on board unit device as the payment tool. The high number of vehicle volume at Jakarta become one of the main reason of electronic road pricing used at the traffic. On this research will be discussed about the condition of Blok M – Kota traffic situation, this road is a main access for people especially to work. to analyze the vehicle volume will be using direct observation method to get the volume, velocity and intensiveness of the traffic. Direct observation will be used to watch vehicle such as motorcycle, light vehicle and weight vehicle. With observation data we will get graphic about the connectivity between velocity and intensiveness that will be modified with questionnaire. Questionnaire data will be spreaded out to get the percentage of decreased volume and estimated price for electronic road pricing. the price and time will be processed with analysis of variance method (ANOVA) asissted with SPSS program. With this research, we expected to learn the electronic road pricing with most efficient price to decrease the vehicle volume at Blok M – Kota road.

Township planning was introduced from early ‘50s in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh having a current population of 14 million approximately. To meet the demand of growing number of population, Dhaka has witnessed different new township projects from the ‘60s to ‘90s. Example of some of these similar developments by government, includes Dhanmondi, Banani, Gulshan, Uttara, Baridhara etc. Hence, old Dhaka city is expanding its civic facilities by urbanizing in the vicinity of city. Under this scenario, a new township project, Purbachal New Town, was planned by concerned government organization namely “Rajdhani Unnayaan Kortipokkha” (RAJUK) which was previously called “Dhaka Improvement Trust” (DIT). This new township is much larger than any other previously planned ones in Dhaka city. This paper aims to compare Purbachal New Town with a previous Development, Dhanmondi Residential Area, which was designed by the same Capital Development Auhtority (RAJUK/DIT) in early ‘50s. The comparison takes place in terms of road network and land-use. Future possible impact of traffic situation on newly designed master plan in Purbachal is also sought for. Findings from the study show some similarities in master plan of Purbachal with existing Dhanmondi, which may create similar situation of current Dhanmondi in proposed Purbachal New Town too.
