Finding out interested targets from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery is an attractive but challenging problem in SAR application. Traditional target detection is independent on SAR imaging process, which is purposeless and unnecessary. Hence, a new SAR processing approach for simultaneous target detection and image formation is proposed in this paper. This approach is based on SAR imagery formation in time domain and human visual saliency detection. First, a series of sub-aperture SAR images with resolutions from low to high are generated by the time domain SAR imaging method. Then, those multiresolution SAR images are detected by the visual saliency processing, and the corresponding intermediate saliency maps are obtained. The saliency maps are accumulated until the result with a sufficient confidence level. After some screening operations, the target regions on the imaging scene are located, and only these regions are focused with full aperture integration. Finally, we can get the SAR imagery with high-resolution detected target regions but low-resolution clutter background. Experimental results have shown the superiority of the proposed approach for simultaneous target detection and image formation.

The influence of frequency synchronization error on SAR imaging and moving target detection using Along-Track Interferometry (ATI) is researched. The expression of frequency synchronization error and its influence on SAR imaging is analyzed in detail firstly. Then, the basic theory of ATI to detect moving targets is introduced in brief, the ATI in range-Doppler domain is given and the influence of frequency synchronization error on the interferometric phase in range-Doppler domain is analyzed. The influence of three kinds of frequency synchronization error is given: the main lobe shift from the inherent frequency error, the main lobe expansion from the linear frequency error, and the sidelobe rise from the sinusoidal frequency error. Simulation is used to confirm the analysis.

In order to analyze the scattering characteristics of sea surface under high sea state, a complete scattering model of sea surface considering breaking wave is established in this study based on the refined facet scattering field model (RFSFM) and the scattering theory of breaking wave. On the basis of this model, the influence of breaking waves on the mono/bistatic SAR imaging of sea surface at HH and VV polarization is studied. The results show that with the increase in wind speed, the coverage of breaking wave increases obviously and the consideration of breaking wave has a good correction for the scattering coefficient at HH polarization under grazing incidence; however, for VV polarization, the effect of breaking wave is very small.
