This paper presents a design and prototype of an IoT-based health and safety monitoring system using MATLAB GUI. This system, which is called the Smart Health and Safety Monitoring System, is aimed at reducing the time, cost and manpower requirements of distributed workplaces. The proposed system is a real-time control and monitoring system that can access on-line the status of consumable devices in the workplace via the internet and prioritise the critically high location that need replenishing. The system dynamically updates the status of all location, such as first aid boxes, earplug dispensers and fire extinguishers. Simulation results of the proposed system gives shorter path, time and cost in comparison to manual maintenance systems.

Research on Bridge health and safety monitoring system is a hot topic. The safety monitoring systems have been applied in some long span bridges. Based on investigation, several problems in health and safety monitoring systems of existing bridges and the developing trends were introduced. This paper summarized the present research on bridge monitoring system worldwide. We hope it could be helpful to the application of bridge health and safety monitoring system.

This paper focuses on the application of Optical fiber sensing technology in bridge health monitoring. The health and safety monitoring system of the new large bridge based on the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensing technology of Hubei Jing Yue Yangtze River Highway Bridge as an example, its health and safety monitoring system in using period based on FBG sensing technology was introduced in detail. The construction and the key point monitoring sensors design of the intelligent system were shown in the paper.
