Nano technology is a new technology and begun in 1980’s. The paper firstly overviews the development of cermet cutter and its general situation in research, and then introduces the inherent properties owned by nano-technology and nano-material. In the end the nano-TiN modified TiC-based cermet cutter is fabricated and the mechanical properties of the developed cutter are also tested and analyzed. In order to study nano-modification effect, both nano-modified cermet and general cermet have been made. The mechanical properties of two kinds of materials are also measured. By comparing the measured datum, it has been indicated that the nano-modified cermet has better mechanical properties and the nano-modification technology is effective. This presents a new way to increase the toughness of cermet cutter.

Disposal of waste tire rubber has become one of the major environmental issues in each part the World. One of the possible solutions to dispose of scrap tire rubber is using them into concrete curbs. This paper presents a new method to ameliorate the rubber concrete using a particular rubber size and Nano Material. Initially six mix designs were performed to determine the optimized size and percentage of rubber according to compressive strength. Afterwards, the major concrete curbs were made with the optimum mix design. Three different samples were made to determine the effects of rubber and Nano. One of which was made without rubber and Nano, the other was made with rubber and the last with rubber and Nano. Experiments were carried out to determine the durability and strength of specimens according to ISIRI-12728.

Modern technologies have affected all fields of human activities. Traditionally nanotechnologies deal with material having a dimension in the range of one billionth of a meter or 100 Nano meter in size. It has been widely used in natural sciences and biomedical sciences in the fields like microbiology, medicine, electronic, chemical, and materials sciences. The application of nontechnology and Nano material in Civil Engineering is still under active research in the areas of Concrete Technology, Construction management, water purification systems, Properties of Concrete at early ages and use of modern polymers in producing High Performance Concrete (HPC). The use of Nano material to produce relatively sustainable concrete represents a promising area of research in Nano material. In this paper the State of the Art of application of Nanotechnologies to Civil Engineering and its future prospects with special reference to sustainability in construction.

Abstract Magnetic assembly of micro/nano materials are of great interest due to their unique properties. These nano-scale materials can be ensemble with other matrixes to prepare for new functional micro/nano composites with enhanced specific properties such as, thermal conductivity. In this study, we demonstrated the distribution and magnetic alignment of nickel (Ni) nanoparticle/nanowires inside of a non-magnetic matrix, (e.g., water or a molten wax), experimentally and computationally. A two-dimensional Monte Carlo simulation model is employed to investigate the aggregate structures of Ni nanoparticle/nanowires subjected to a one-directional static magnetic field. It is anticipated that the applied magnetic strength will influence the attractive forces between nanoparticle/nanowires that will produce chain-like cluster structures parallel to magnetic direction where the aligned chains will be separated by a range of distances that are also function of magnetic field strength.
