Digital processing of the recorded point clouds on innovative surfaces could facilitate the operator’s planning of the metrological process and give more freedom in the assessment of the surface texture. The current state of knowledge about surface characteristics, precision and quality of measurements and especially the repeatability of measurements – not only in the laboratory environment but also in the industry pose a big challenge. The paper presents research works related to the identification of the impact of the method of acquisition point clouds using digital data processing on surface texture. The main assumption of the paper was to carry out, according to the prepared plan of the experiment, the series of sample measurements with the use of the optical measuring systems AltiSurf A520 in the Laboratory of Surface Topography at the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. The next task was to determine the impact of the digital data processing strategy in order to identify the significance of the impact (conditions and methods of filtration), which in practice largely determines the repeatability and reproducibility of the parameter values of the geometry surface structure.

Abstract Modern industry and science require novel 3D optical measuring systems and laser technologies with micro/nanometer resolution for solving actual problems. Such systems, including the 3D dimensional inspection of ceramic parts for electrotechnical industry, laser inspection of wheel pair diagnostic for running trains and 3D superresolution low-coherent micro- /nanoprofilometers are presented. The newest results in the field of laser technologies for high-precision synthesis of microstructures by updated image generator using the semiconductor laser are given. The measuring systems and the laser image generator developed and produced by TDI SIE and IAE SB RAS have been tested by customers and used in different branches of industry and science.

Optical measuring systems provide much more detail on the deformation of the blank in the bulge test than conventional contact height measuring systems. A significant increase in accuracy of the stress-strain curve can be achieved by fitting the surface to more complicated equations than the traditional spherical surface and by considering the local strain data to approximate the curvature for the midplane. In particular an ellipsoid shape is shown to be very accurate in describing the surface of the blank. Contact height measuring systems provide insufficient data to fit a surface to an ellipsoid shape and to establish local strain data. Pragmatic equations are proposed using the work hardening coefficient from the tensile test to approximate the same accuracy in stress-strain curves as obtained by optical measuring systems using the before mentioned evaluation method.

The paper presents the results of measuring the gearbox housing with the ATOS optical measuring system, the TRITOP system and the "TESA micro-hit 4-5-4" coordinate measuring machine. The aim of the study was to determine the differences in modern measuring systems and whether these differences affect the final measurement result when controlling parts of a complex configuration. At the beginning of the paper, the way of functioning of the used measuring systems and the results of research in this area are described. GOM Inspect software used for the ATOS and TRITOP measuring systems, while PC DMIS software used for the coordinate measuring machine. The analysis of the obtained results showed that there are significant differences in the measurement results and that the measuring systems used can't be applied with the same success to the measurement of parts of complex configuration such as the gearbox housing.
