Potential Benefits

To assist data handling of results derived from radioimmunoassay the RIACalc Multigamma counter package was interfaced to a laboratory information system. The interface was bidirectional and allowed transfer of worklists and results. A suite of programs was written for the laboratory information system that enabled flexible data processing to meet a range of laboratory requirements. One utility within the suite contained a simple user definable rule based routine for automatically requesting additional tests. Use of the interface and new software improved laboratory efficiency and illustrated the potential benefits of decision making systems.

The purpose of this paper is to start a conceptual investigation of approximation rule based on VPRS as a result of the certainty degree of rules in complete information system that cannot exactly express the uncertainty of those in incomplete information system, and then an efficient approximation rule induction algorithm under the rough set framework is presented. Instead of focusing on the minimal rule set, this algorithm hierarchically extracts rules in multistages from data sets to suit changing environments in learning and classification. In addition, a heuristic strategy is employed in the algorithm to improve its performance and reduce the time consumed in inducing. Experiments are carried out, and the results show that the proposed algorithm is effective in inducing rules which can enhance their adaptive capacities.

Management of water resources based on Geographic Information System can provide substantial benefits to water availability settings. Monitoring the potential water level is needed in the development sector, agriculture, energy and others. In this research is developed water resource information system using real-time Geographic Information System concept for monitoring the potential water level of web based area by applying rule based system method. GIS consists of hardware, software, and database. Based on the web-based GIS architecture, this study uses a set of computer that are connected to the network, run on the Apache web server and PHP programming language using MySQL database. The Ultrasound Wireless Sensor System is used as a water level data input. It also includes time and geographic location information. This GIS maps the five sensor locations. GIS is processed through a rule based system to determine the level of potential water level of the area. Water level monitoring information result can be displayed on thematic maps by overlaying more than one layer, and also generating information in the form of tables from the database, as well as graphs are based on the timing of events and the water level values.

This study explored whether or not standard administration and scoring of conventional articulation tests accurately identified children as phonologically disordered and whether or not information from these tests established severity level and programming needs. Results of standard scoring procedures from the Assessment of Phonological Processes-Revised, the Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation, the Photo Articulation Test, and the Weiss Comprehensive Articulation Test were compared for 20 phonologically impaired children. All tests identified the children as phonologically delayed/disordered, but the conventional tests failed to clearly and consistently differentiate varying severity levels. Conventional test results also showed limitations in error sensitivity, ease of computation for scoring procedures, and implications for remediation programming. The use of some type of rule-based analysis for phonologically impaired children is highly recommended.
