The present report on Tourism Market Trends in South Asia has been prepared as an information paper to the 31st meeting of the WTO Commission for South Asia. It follows a similar report which was completed in June 1994 and submitted to the 30th session of the South Asia Commission. The main objectives of this report are as follows: ?to analyze the latest trends of international tourism arrivals and receipts worldwide and in each of the six WTO regions; ?to highlight the performance of the various countries of South Asia Pacific as tourism destinations, earners and spenders; ?to analyze pattern and size of inbound tourism flows to selected destinations in South Asia from the main generating regions of the world; ?to show the latest trends in outbound tourism flows from selected generating markets within South Asia and from other regions of the World; ?to show the growth prospects of international tourism arrivals and receipts in selected South Asia destinations for 1995.

Several studies reported the effect of obesity on the progression of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). However, the impact of obesity on the clinicopathologic presentation of IgAN remains uncertain. This is a retrospective cross-sectional study from eight university hospitals in South Korea. Patients were categorized into three groups using the Asia-Pacific obesity classification based on body mass index (BMI). Clinical and histopathologic data at the time of renal biopsy were analyzed. Among 537 patients with IgAN, the obese group was more hypertensive and had lower estimated glomerular filtration rate and more proteinuria than other groups. The histologic scores for mesangial matrix expansion (MME), interstitial fibrosis, tubular atrophy, and mesangial C3 deposition differed significantly between the three groups. Among these histopathologic parameters, BMI was independently positively associated with MME score on multivariable linear regression analysis (p = 0.028). Using multivariable logistic regression analysis, the obese group was independently associated with higher MME scores compared to the normal weight/overweight group (p = 0.020). However, BMI was not independently associated with estimated glomerular filtration rate or proteinuria on multivariable analysis. Obesity was independently associated with severe MME in patients with IgAN. Obesity may play an important pathogenetic role in mesangial lesions seen in IgAN.

In the modern world of marketing, analyzing the trends in market is a key point towards to scope of improvement of any company. Considering the analysis of a retail market where market trends change very frequently based on customer needs and interest is highly challenging. Market segmentation is one of the approaches included in analysis of market trends which gives a diverse view of the market. The research here concentrates, especially on a case study based on fast moving consumable goods market and identifying market change patterns by applying a novel data mining approach. Data mining includes a wide variety of techniques and algorithm which can be effectively used in the process of market analysis. The research work carried out coins a new algorithm which combines various association rules and techniques, the HMS (Hybrid market segmentation) algorithm with some specialized criteria is used to support the market segmentation. The primary data needed for the analysis and operation are collected through a questionnaire based survey conducted on people from various demographic regions as well as various age groups. Used a quota based sampling approach for the research, The data mining approach here helps to study the large dataset collected and also to extract the useful information required to model the system. The system here is a learning system which improves the market segmentation functionality as data set improves, The paper implements a hybrid data mining approach which effectively segments the retail mobile market in to various customer and product groups and also provides a prediction and suggestion system for company as well as customer.

As the pace of globalization accelerates, the transport and information technologies develop even more rapidly, and a large number of companies of different sizes get involved in international trade, wider range of factors affect the volume and geographic focus of trade. This article tests the hypothesis that while entering foreign markets, along with the geographical distance and GDP of partner countries (the classical gravity model), the "psychic distance", also, plays an important role. Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan are the economies of the Asia-Pacific region that have achieved impressive development goals since the end of the 20th century. Rapid growth was partially triggered by the export orientation of these economies. In the foreign trade structure of the "Four Asian Tigers", primary goods make up no more than 2%. At the same time, the exports of manufactured goods – which exhibit inconsistency in quality, heterogeneity, and various specific features – should be strongly influenced by the psychic distance. The success of such products sales in the foreign market largely depends on the individual qualities of the product and the seller's marketing strategy. This article presents the results of a study of the influence of a number of factors, in addition to those underlying the gravity model, on the export flows of the "Four Asian Tigers" (Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan) to 88 countries. The relationship between the ex-planatory variables (cultural distance, other determinants of psychic distance, time differ-ence and the existence of free trade agreements) and the volume of exports to each of the 88 trading partners was tested by using regression analysis. The gravity model indicators (physical distance and GDP) were used as control variables. Based on the results of the study, the authors came to the conclusion that the complete picture of the dependence of export flows, in particular, on psychic distance, is ambiguous. Perhaps the existing models for measuring psychic distance at the country level require changes, a revision of the factors included. Keywords. International trade, export, gravity model, cultural distance, psychic dis-tance, psychic distance stimuli, Four Asian Tigers, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Re-public of Korea, regression analysis.
