Digital watermarking is a new information security technology, and it uses the information to protect the security of multimedia data hiding technique. Digital watermarking in wavelet domain can make effective use of the human visual system characteristics, and can be compatible with the international compression standard, and the embedding watermark signal energy can be distributed to all of the pixel space. Based on the characteristic of multi-resolution wavelet decomposition and human visual system model matching, digital watermarking algorithm based on wavelet transform is proposed in this paper. The algorithm for tamper proof is designed by quantifying the significant wavelet coefficients to embed watermark sequence. Preprocessing and quantifying the image of this algorithm are studied, which resolves the rounding error and overflow problem brought by the watermarked image pixel values of wavelet transform. Through various attack test and analysis, the experimentation shows that it has strong robustness, can resist many common image attacks, and has strong practicability.

As some images perhaps contain pixels whose individual colors will not be perceived if they are below the spatial threshold of human visual system (HVS), the paper presents a wavelet transform method for color image considering HVS characteristics to reduce the redundant color information and then construct perceived gamut of image (PGI), which will be used for effective image-dependent gamut mapping. Taking into account the Contrast Sensitivity Function (CFS) of HVS model, the color information reduction is implemented in some subbands of the wavelet transform domain. Then the image gamut was visualized using the general convex hull algorithm and the constructed PGI will only indicate the perceived part of color image. We preliminarily establish a method for reliably determining PGI, which is help to developing robust and psycho-visually justified image gamut mapping algorithm in the future.

Image compression is a technology using as little as possible bits to represent the original image. As wavelet transform has local characteristics on the time and frequency domain, it makes up the deficiency of DCT. Moreover, its multi-resolution characteristics can easily associate with the human visual system (HVS). Besides, wavelet-based image compression is prone to combine with new image coding methods. It has become the research hotspots at present. This paper introduces wavelets theory and discusses the research status and progress of wavelet-based image compression then points out the main problems. Finally, the prospect in the future was presented.
