A Revised Optimal Control Pilot Model for Computer Simulation

Significant problems in sewer systems are caused by gross solids, and there is a strong case for their inclusion in computer simulation models of sewer flow quality. The paper describes a project which considered methods of modelling the movement of gross solids in combined sewers. Laboratory studies provided information on advection and deposition of typical gross solids in part-full pipe flow. Theoretical considerations identified aspects of models for gross solids that should differ from those for dissolved and fine suspended pollutants. The proposed methods for gross solids were incorporated in a pilot model, and their effects on simple simulations were considered.

Abstract The alleviation of gusts effects on a tiltrotor in aeroplane and helicopter operation modes obtained by an optimal control methodology based on the actuation of elevators, wing flaperons and swashplate is examined. An optimal observer for state estimate is included in the compensator synthesis, with the Kalman-Bucy filter applied in the presence of stochastic noise. Tiltrotor dynamics is simulated through an aeroelastic model that couples rigid-body motion with wing and proprotor structural dynamics. An extensive numerical investigation examines effectiveness and robustness of the applied control procedure, taking into account the action of both deterministic and stochastic vertical gusts. In addition, a passive pilot model is included in the aeroelastic loop and the corresponding effects on uncontrolled and controlled gust response are analysed.

Using the disciplines of Modern Control Theory, an optimal tracking control for a point focusing solar concentrator is derived. By converting the tracking problem into a regulator problem with a sun rate input a very low pointing error is achieved. A representative example with a corresponding computer simulation is presented.

A self-adaptive forecast & optimal control method for grinding wheel in-feed is presented, it can control grinding wheel plunge by using the new program of grinding process, and can compensate availably the size errors produced by the elasticity deflection of the grinding system and the deference of work-pieces rough and the wear of the grinding wheel, et al. The result of computer simulation and real testing indicate that this method can improve grinding quality.
