A Web service is a software system designed to support interoperable application-to-application interactions over the Internet. Web services are based on a set of XML standards, such as Web services description language (WSDL), simple object access protocol (SOAP) and universal description, discovery and integration (UDDI). A key role in the Web service architecture is played by UDDI registries, i.e., a structured repository of information that can be queried by clients to find the Web services that better fit their needs. Even if, at the beginning, UDDI has been mainly conceived as a public registry without specific facilities for security, today security issues are becoming more and more crucial, due to the fact that data published in UDDI registries may be highly strategic and sensitive. In this chapter, we focus on authenticity issues, by proposing a method based on Merkle hash trees, which does not require the party managing the UDDI to be trusted wrt authenticity. In the chapter, besides giving all the details of the proposed solution, we show its benefit wrt standard digital signature techniques.

Perjuangan University is developing an information system in its campus, but the system is partially built. This has resulted in its own problems, there is no connectivity between systems and the difficulty of developing data integration. So that in the business process that occurs many experience difficulties in data synchronization and the amount of duplicate data that must be entered. One solution to overcome this problem is to utilize web service technology. The web service architecture used is REST. REST as a bridge that is able to integrate data in a stateless format. The results of the application of the web service as a backend system are able to integrate the existing academic information systems and library information systems without changing existing structures, programs or architecture. Format data exchange between systems using the JSON format. In addition, officers do not need to input and verify data several times, when the data in the library information system changes automatically in the academic information system the changes are immediately read.

Service provided by one electronic device to the other electronic device or devices is generally called as a web service. It may be a block of code that can be remotely accessed and utilized. In the present IT industry web services are playing a vital role in application development by providing a facility of using the existing modules to make up an application without coding from the scratch. This improves the productivity and reduces the overall project development cost and time. This paper provides the basic information of the components that supports the usage of web service along with the web service architecture. The components that are required for the web service architecture such as SOAP: simple object access protocol: used for establishing connection between components, UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration):a registry that stores all the web services and WSDL: web service description language.

Problem faced by goods delivery service providers today is that there are found consumers they have difficulty in finding couriers to transport large goods, thus causing consumers to have to go to the owner of a pickup car or delivery service provider, it can take a lot of time and cost. To solve the problem, there is currently no system that facilitates consumers in ordering couriers optimally. Therefore, it requires a delivery system that can order couriers only through a smartphone owned. The result that was wanted to be achieved in this study was the creation of a multiplatform based courier ordering system with a REST web service architecture that can be accessed through computer and Android platforms. With the construction of this system testing of the web service, the test results of the web service function stated that, all functions tested show valid results, this means that the entire web service function on the application, already fulfilled the design, in addition to testing against the web service, conducted also the black box trial, based on the black box test results, it is concluded that the application created, already according to the design, is proven by all the parts tested showing valid status

Reflection is a powerful technology that allows us to produce auto-adaptable software. RAWS is a reflective, multilevel Web service architecture aimed at allowing a Web service to transform its structure and behaviour without the need of human intervention to change the source code, compile it or deploy it again on the application server. Using RAWS, the Web service can change itself automatically. Current application servers have a very important limitation: The deployment platform (J2EE, .NET, etc.). Using current servers, a Web service or application can only be deployed on a server which runs with the same technology. To solve this drawback, we have developed universal Web application server (UWAS), platform capable of deploying Web services or applications written in any object-oriented language or for any platform. This is possible thanks to the fact that UWAS internally uses a language-independent object-oriented Web server markup language (OOWSML) representation based on XML. Altogether, RAWS & UWAS make it possible to deploy a Web service on the server regardless of its implementation technology, providing the flexibility to automatically adapt or transform the Web service structure and/or behaviour.

The Web

Recently, web services have presented a new and evolving model for constructing the distributed system. The meteoric growth of the Web over the last few years proves the efficacy of using simple protocols over the Internet as the basis for a large number of web services and applications. Web service is a modern technology of web, which can be defined as software applications with a programmatic interface based on Internet protocol. Web services became common in the applications of the web by the help of Universal, Description, Discovery and Integration; Web Service Description Language and Simple Object Access Protocol. The architecture of web services refers to a collection of conceptual components in which common sets of standard can be defined among interoperating components. Nevertheless, the existing Web service's architecture is not impervious to some challenges, such as security problems, and the quality of services. Against this backdrop, the present study will provide an overview of these issues. Therefore, it aims to propose web services architecture model to support distributed system in terms of application and issues.
