Abstract Metal interconnect defects have become a more serious yield detractor as backend process complexity has increased from a single layer to about 10 layers. This paper introduces a test methodology to monitor and localize the metal defects based on FPGA products. The test patterns are generated for each metal layer. The results not only indicate the severity of defects for each metal layer, but also accurately isolate open/short defects.

It is known that aging affects neuroplasticity. On the other hand, neuroplasticity can be studied by analyzing the electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. An important challenge in brain research is to study the variations of neuroplasticity during aging for patients suffering from epilepsy. This study investigates the variations of the complexity of EEG signal during aging for patients with epilepsy. For this purpose, we employed fractal dimension as an indicator of process complexity. We classified the subjects in different age groups and computed the fractal dimension of their EEG signals. Our investigations showed that as patients get older, their EEG signal will be more complex. The method of investigation that has been used in this study can be further employed to study the variations of EEG signal in case of other brain disorders during aging.

Research on the management of innovation has been highly fragmented, and to a large extent non-cumulative. Much of the research has been conducted within three separate disciplines, with relatively little overlap or interaction: the management of research and development or technology; new product development and marketing; and organisational development and change. In this paper, we identify a number of emergent themes which have the potential to integrate these diverse streams of research, and result in a more comprehensive model of the innovation process: complexity, networks and learning. We argue that the innovation process is inherently complex, and therefore we need better characterisations of the technological, market and organisational contingencies which affect the opportunity for innovation. With growing complexity, the focus shifts from competencies based on internal assets such as R&D activities and intellectual property, to the position of a firm within an innovation network and competencies based on its relationships with other organisations. Finally, too much research has been pre-occupied with how firms develop and exploit narrow competencies based on prior experience, rather than how firms acquire new competencies. A focus on organisational learning may provide a richer explanation of the organisational factors which affect the acquisition of new technological and market knowledge.

The selection of the resources system (SRS) is an important element in the integration/project of Agile/Virtual Enterprises (A/V E) because its performance is dependent of this selection, and even of its creation. However, it remains a difficult matter to solve because is still a very complex and uncertain problem. We propose that using Value Analysis (VA) in the pre-selection of resources phase represents a significant improvement of the SRS process. The current literature fails to formally address the pre-selection phase and none of the resource selection models incorporate the resources value and its consequence in the complexity of the selection process. Whereby, ours developed model with VA constitutes an innovative approach towards greater sustainability in the configuration of A/V E in the context of Industry 4.0, where a massive interconnection among enterprises is expected and consequently the increase of the selection process complexity. After the construction of a demonstrator tool for a set of the problem formulations, this paper verifies by computational results the thesis regarding the benefits of applying VA to the SRS process: VA reduces the complexity of the SRS process, even ensuring that the final system of resources achieve higher quality/value grade.

School as an institution that has a primary mission to educate and develop the character of the nation through a series of learning activities. School is an organization whose success goals are largely determined by the leadership style and organizational paradigm that is shared by all school components. Schools as organizations have business processes as a collection of procedures or activities that can define business objectives or objectives, generally in the context of organizational structures that can define functional roles and relationships within the organization. The main purpose of BPMN is to provide a notation that is easy to use and can be understood by everyone involved in business, which includes business analysts who model business processes, technical developers who build systems that carry out business, and various levels of management that must be able to read and understand processes diagram quickly so that it can help in decision making. To measure the complexity of a business process, complexity metrics are measured. This study uses the Cognitve Information Complexity Measure (CICM) method. Researchers took 3 SOPs of national education standards namely SOP curriculum development resulting in a standard value of complexity 425.1496, SOP for the Learning Process produced a standard value of complexity 2091.333 and SOP for Teacher Recruitment resulted in a standard value of complexity of 1145.49.


: This paper discusses the recent developments in the field of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) hybrid process. Spark machining is a universally recognised unconventional process, excluding the restriction of having low machining efficiency. To overcome this, various investigations have been made on designing of electrode, types of dielectric medium, variations in input parameters etc. Although material expulsion rate have been found to improve, nonetheless it cannot encounter the requirements of modern industries and the quality of surface is inferior. To increase further the utility of EDM, its hybridization with other process have to be carried out. A hybrid process can reduce the machining time while maintaining better surface and material expulsion rate. In hybrid process, the mechanism of two processes is applied concurrently or consecutively. Although, the performance of combined process is better as compared to the individual processes but hybridization increases the process complexity.

This paper is the result of two related studies done on the estimation of IT projects at a large Dutch multinational company. The first one is a study about the accuracy of different dimensions of IT project estimating: schedule, budget and effort. [Note: This paper is an extension of the paper published by the authors as "An analysis of accuracy and learning in software project estimating" [28].] This study is based on a dataset of 171 projects collected at the IT department of the company. We analyzed the estimation error of budget, effort and schedule. Also, we analyzed whether there is any learning (improvement) effect over time. With the results of the first study we proceeded to research what is causing the current estimation error (inaccuracy). The results of our first study show that there is no relation between accuracy of budget, schedule and effort in the company analyzed. Besides, they show that over time there is no change in the inaccuracy (effectiveness and efficiency of the estimates). In our second study we discovered that the sources of this inaccuracy are: (IT estimation) process complexity, misuse of estimates, technical complexity, requirements redefinition and business domain instability. This paper reflects and provides recommendations on how to improve the learning from historical estimates and how to manage the diverse sources of inaccuracy inside this particular company and also in other organizations.

Dieser Beitrag stellt einen Ansatz zur robotergestützten hybriden Fertigung von Leichtbaustrukturen für den Flugzeugbau vor. Das Reibauftragschweißen bietet die Möglichkeit, mit geringer Prozesskomplexität Material aufzutragen und so artungleiche Metalle miteinander zu verbinden. In den in diesem Beitrag vorgestellten Versuchen wurde auf ein Substrat aus Titan durch den Reibauftragschweißprozess Aluminium einlagig und mehrlagig aufgetragen. Die erzeugten Beschichtungen wurden anschließend metallografisch untersucht.   This paper presents an approach for robot-based hybrid production of lightweight structures for aircraft construction. Friction surfacing offers the possibility of applying material with low process complexity and joining dissimilar metals. In the presented experiments aluminum was applied to a titanium substrate in single and multiple layers using the friction surfacing process. Then, the produced coatings were metallographically examined.
