In recent years, with the vigorous development of power electronic technology, renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar energy utilization efficiency continuing to improve, and the application scale expanding unceasingly, DC power grid technology and the development of multiterminal HVDC has become a key link of transmission technology in our country. As the key equipment of biulding DC system, The direct current breaker need to be optimized on the aspect of topology, to promote the development of dc transmission. This article puts forward a new type of submodule which can be applicated in hybrid DC breaker. After a brief review of DC circuit breaker research status, the paper will give the topology structure, and analyzes its working principle. Then, verification and electrical stress calculation will be done in Saber Sketch simulation. Based on this, two other present scheme will be introduced, and finally a comparison will be made between the diffent scheme. As is concluded, the novel submodule can save the power elctronic device cost effectively

The analysis and calculation of the short-circuit fault current in the DC grid is of great significance to the design and configuration of the converter station and DC circuit breaker parameters. The existing flexible DC system not only includes the modular multilevel converter (MMC) converter, but also needs power equipment such as the fault current limiter and DC circuit breaker. Therefore, the system modeling and short circuit calculation of the multi-terminal DC system after adding the DC circuit breaker are also of great significance for the design of DC power system parameters and the grid troubleshooting ability. In this paper, firstly, the parameters of the four-terminal DC system of the modular multilevel converter (MMC) are simplified, and the analytical solution of the short circuit fault current of the multi-terminal DC system is given. Then, the external characteristics of the cascaded hybrid DC circuit breaker are modeled. Based on the equivalent circuit of the fault current in different stages, the short circuit calculation method of four-terminal MMC system with DC circuit breaker is obtained. This method can effectively describe the overall trend of fault current and provide the basis for the configuration of DC line protection settings and DC circuit breaker related parameters.

<p>DC system has the potential of vast and rapid fault current generation due to multiple (line and converters) discharge capacitors and small impedance of DC lines. DC fault current spreads through the system exponentially compared to AC. Such an unexpected huge current causes a voltage drop, impacts the normal operation of system components and exposes the system to a great challenge for fault detection and interruption. For prevention of system destruction during the fault, multiple approaches such as application of Mechanical Circuit Breakers (MCBs), fuses, Solid State Circuit Breaker (SSCB), and Hybrid Solid-State Circuit Breaker (HSSCB) have been proposed and applied. In DC fault applications, fast fault detection and interruption without any interference to the other components are quite important. Therefore, semiconductor breakers have been implemented to meet the DC fault protection requirements with a high-speed operation where traditional MBs have failed. Due to the high conduction loss and low efficiency of semiconductor switches, for fast and efficient DC fault interruption, different Fault Current Limiter (FCL) types are suggested. Although a high impedance FCL can prevent the voltage fluctuations due to the current decline, it can cause operation speed issues, coordination troubles, overheat, and malfunction of protective components in a fault situation.</p> <p>This paper focused on a combination of two-way HSSCB with a self-adapt DC short current limiter, ultra-fast switch, and power electronic switch to overcome the above challenges. It can efficiently and fast fault current limiting response with low conducting loss and appropriate cooperation among protective components in a low voltage DC system. The MATLAB/Simulink is used to analyze the effectiveness and consistency of the proposed FCL-HSSCB in 400 V interconnected standalone DC microgrids.</p>

DC faults cause severe disruption in not only the DC system but also the AC system because the fault current is very large and rapidly increases. The DC circuit breaker used to separate the DC faults from the power system is still being researched, but it is very expensive due to the use of multiple power semiconductors to interrupt a large fault current in a short time. However, if the quench characteristic of a superconductor is used, the amplitude of fault current can be reduced. Therefore, it is possible to effectively interrupt a large fault current even if a relatively cheap mechanically passive DC circuit breaker is used. In the current study, a superconducting hybrid DC circuit breaker is proposed, and the limiting characteristics of each element are analyzed. By using two superconducting elements, the quench occurs sequentially twice according to the magnitude of the fault current, and the current-limiting reactor and resistance are used. If a current-limiting reactor is used in the DC system, the fault current rises slowly at the beginning of the fault, and the use of resistance can reduce the magnitude of the fault current. The inductance of the current-limiting reactor and resistance parameter settings of the hybrid DC circuit breaker was analyzed by the step-changing case method, and the interrupting characteristic of the DC circuit breaker was improved.
