A powerful non-destructive testing (NDT) technique is adopted to study the internal defects and elemental distribution/homogeneity and porosity of aerated brick and EPS aggregate poly brick samples. In the present study the internal defects like homogeneity, porosity, elemental distribution, EPS aggregate and aerator distributor in the test samples have been observed by the measurement of gray value/optical density of the neutron radiographic images of these samples. From this measurement it is found that the neutron intensity/optical density variation with the pixel distance of the AOI of the NR images in both expanded polystyrene (EPS) aggregate poly brick and aerated brick samples comply almost same in nature with respect to the whole AOI but individually each AOI shows different nature from one AOI to another and it confirms that the elemental distribution within a AOI is almost homogeneous. Finally it was concluded that homogeneity, elemental distribution in the EPS aggregate poly brick sample is better than that of the aerated brick sample.

This study is aimed to analyze the thermal imaging patterns presented by infrared(IR) thermography at which the metal with internal defects are thermally heated. Through the knowledge of non-destructive testing which infrared thermography can be applied to detect the defects inside the materials, there are two materials experimented; one is stainless steel and the other is cast-iron. Thermally, each material of specimens is heated at the base of the material and kept with constant temperature, The artificial defects in the specimen are formulated. Under the shape and location of the defects, temperature profiles are also measured and validated using the computer simulation. It is concluded that the characteristics of thermal patterns obtained from IR thermography are consistent with those of measurement and computations.

A visualization method was used in this work for the 3D morphology of internal defects in wooden products using a Philips Brilliance 16 computed tomography (CT). To obtain a high-quality 3D digital model, the original images from the CT scan were segmented to manually color the cross- and vertical sections of the wooden specimen. Through coloring, the reconstructed model showed the accurate 3D morphology of internal defects, such as cracks, wormholes, and decay parts, as well as clear shapes of borer excrement, nails, bark, and wood parts of the specimen. The results suggest that this method provides precise 3D models of different types of defects in the wooden specimen. It can also accurately measure the size and angle of the defects at any position for further observation. This method can be effectively used for non-destructive testing of wooden products and wooden cultural relics and can provide accurate scales of defects and intuitive 3D models for wooden products and wooden cultural relics restoration.

Such technologies make it possible to identify internal defects not only in new products, but also to constantly monitor newly arising defects of already operating machines. The article presents materials aimed at considering methods of thermal non-destructive testing.

Abstract This paper intends to achieve improved image processing for the clear identification of defects in damaged road pavement structure using infrared thermography non-destructive testing (NDT). To that goal, 4 types of pavement specimen including internal defects were fabricated to exploit the results obtained by heating the specimens by natural light. The results showed that defects located down to a depth of 3 cm could be detected by infrared thermography NDT using the improved image processing method.

The purpose of this study is to investigate of Non-Destructive Testing of Wood Plastic Composite (WPC), where the axis errors are mainly cracks caused by not change of cutting conditions (cutting speed and feed rate), respectively geometry of he cutting tool, but their imperfect encapsulation of wood with plastic (HDPE). Detection of surface defects was used visual inspection, colour penetrate test and fluorescent penetrate method. To detect internal defects was used X-ray. Pictures taken with a digital microscope camera does not provide sufficient information about internal defects, captures only the surface and as a result it is postulated that the cracks are spreading along the length of the profile extrusion axis (it is not possible to state their course in different layers – cross section along the thickness). Solution is use of the new technology – connection of metrology and tomography – metrotomography (X-ray scanning).
