Abstract In this paper, we propose the new method to identify the Operating Deflection Shapes (ODSs) from the measurement data of time domain. At first, we present the identification scheme of ODSs based on a state-space model. Then the scheme is extended to identify the ODSs adaptively for the time-varying systems by using the URV Decomposition (URVD). Proposed scheme is able to decompose the deformation of a structure under operating condition into the underlying superposition of well excited frequency components. This paper introduces the algorithm and shows the effectiveness of our proposed scheme applyed for both synthesized and experimental data.

The paper presents a method which utilizes substructure normal modes to predict the vibration properties of a cantilever beam with a breathing transverse crack. The two segments of the cantilever beam, separated by the crack, are related to one another by time varying connection matrices representing the interaction forces. The connection matrices are expanded in a Fourier series leading to a classical eigenvalue problem. Subsequently, the initial formulation is extended to avoid interference of the crack interfaces with a time domain formulation. The Lagrange multipliers, used to enforce the exact continuity constraints when the crack is closed, produce the interfaces forces needed for the modelling of interface dry friction.

Methamphetamine (MA) can cause brain structural and functional impairment, but there are few studies on whether this difference will sustain on MA abstainers. The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation of brain networks in MA abstainers. In this study, 47 people detoxified for at least 14 months and 44 normal people took a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI) scan. A dynamic (i.e., time-varying) functional connectivity (FC) is obtained by applying sliding windows in the time courses on the independent components (ICs). The windowed correlation data for each IC were then clustered by k-means. The number of subjects in each cluster was used as a new feature for individual identification. The results show that the classifier achieved satisfactory performance (82.3% accuracy, 77.7% specificity, and 85.7% sensitivity). We find that there are significant differences in the brain networks of MA abstainers and normal people in the time domain, but the spatial differences are not obvious. Most of the altered functional connections (time-varying) are identified to be located at dorsal default mode network. These results have shown that changes in the correlation of the time domain may play an important role in identifying MA abstainers. Therefore, our findings provide valuable insights in the identification of MA and elucidate the pathological mechanism of MA from a resting-state functional integration point of view.

Simulation of the seismoelectric effect serves as a useful tool to capture the observed seismoelectric conversion phenomenon in porous media, thus offering promising potential in underground exploration activities to detect pore fluids such as water, oil and gas. The static electromagnetic (EM) approximation is among the most widely used methods for numerical simulation of the seismoelectric responses. However, the static approximation ignores the accompanying electric field generated by the shear wave, resulting in considerable errors when compared to analytical results, particularly under high salinity conditions. To mitigate this problem, we propose a spatial high-order finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method based on Maxwell's full equations of time-varying EM fields to simulate the seismoelectric response in 2D mode. To improve the computational efficiency influenced by the velocity differences between seismic and electromagnetic waves, different time steps are set according to the stability conditions, and the seismic feedback values of EM time nodes are obtained by linear approximation within the seismic unit time step. To improve the simulation accuracy of the seismoelectric response with the time-varying EM calculation method, finite-difference coefficients are obtained by solving the spatial high-order difference approximation based on Taylor expansion. The proposed method yields consistent simulation results compared to those obtained from the analytical method under different salinity conditions, thus indicating its validity for simulating seismoelectric responses in porous media. We further apply our method to both layered and anomalous body models and extend our algorithm to 3D. Results show that the time-varying EM calculation method could effectively capture the reflection and transmission phenomena of the seismic and EM wavefields at the interfaces of contrasting media. This may allow for the identification of abnormal locations, thus highlighting the capability of seismoelectric response simulation to detect subsurface properties.

Abstract Deepwater steel lazy wave risers (SLWR) subject to vessel motion will be exposed to time-varying oscillatory flow, vortices could be generated and the cyclic vortex shedding force causes the structure vibrate, such fluid-structure interaction is called vortex-induced vibrations (VIV). To investigate VIV on a riser with non-linear structures under vessel motion and oscillatory flows, time domain approaches are needed. In this study, a time-domain approach is used to simulate a full-scale SLWR. Two cases with simplified riser top motions are simulated numerically. By using default input parameters to the time domain approach, the key oscillatory flow induced VIV response characteristics such as response frequency, curvature and displacements are examined and discussed. More accurate VIV prediction could be achieved by using realistic hydrodynamic inputs into the time domain model.
