Clustering of the sensors in wireless sensor network is done to achieve energy efficiency. The nodes, which are unable to join any cluster, are referred to as isolated nodes and tend to transfer information straight to the base station. It is palpable that isolated nodes and cluster heads communicate with the base station and tend to exhaust their energy leaving behind coverage holes. In this paper, we propose the innovative clustering scheme using mobile sink approach to extend networks lifetime. The proposed (ORP-MS) algorithm is implemented in MATLAB 2017a and the results revealed that the proposed algorithm outdid the existing algorithms in terms networks lifetime and energy efficiency simultaneously achieved high throughput.

The lifetime of a node in wireless sensor networks (WSN) is directly responsible for the longevity of the wireless network. The routing of packets is the most energy-consuming activity for a sensor node. Thus, finding an energy-efficient routing strategy for transmission of packets becomes of utmost importance. The opportunistic routing (OR) protocol is one of the new routing protocol that promises reliability and energy efficiency during transmission of packets in wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this paper, we propose an intelligent opportunistic routing protocol (IOP) using a machine learning technique, to select a relay node from the list of potential forwarder nodes to achieve energy efficiency and reliability in the network. The proposed approach might have applications including e-healthcare services. As the proposed method might achieve reliability in the network because it can connect several healthcare network devices in a better way and good healthcare services might be offered. In addition to this, the proposed method saves energy, therefore, it helps the remote patient to connect with healthcare services for a longer duration with the integration of IoT services.

Energy efficiency is a key factor to improve WSNs’ performance, and hierarchical routing algorithms are fitter in large scale networks and have more reliability, so they are mostly used to improve the nodes’ energy efficiency now. In this paper, mainly existing hierarchical routing algorithms are introduced, and based on these researches, a new energy efficient hierarchical routing algorithm designed based on energy aware semi-static clustering method is proposed. In this algorithm named EASCA, the nodes’ residual energy and cost of communication would both be considered when clustering. And a special packet head is defined to update nodes’ energy information when transmitting message; to rotate cluster head automatically, a member management scheme is designed to complete this function; and a re-cluster mechanism is used to dynamic adjust the clusters to make sensor nodes organization more reasonable. At last, EASCA is compared with other typical hierarchical routing algorithms in a series of experiments, and the experiments’ result proves that EASCA has obviously improved WSNs’ energy efficiency.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) compose the fundamental platform for a number of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, especially those related to the environmental, health, and military surveillance. While being autonomous in power supply, the main challenge in node’s processing and communication architecture design remains the energy efficiency. However, this goal should not limit the main functionality of the system which is often related to the network coverage and connectivity. This paper shows the implementation of the Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing algorithm in an XBee based platform. As shown, the network can achieve low power consumption per node primarily due to the energy efficiency of the wireless transceivers and the due to the capability of the firmware to enable different operation modes. On the other hand, while inheriting the advantages of flooding-based route discovery protocols, the implemented AODV algorithm further minimizes the data and processing overhead, which implies the additional lifetime prolongation of the energy-constrained mesh network.
