An exact treatment using the boundary-value method for solving the problem of plane-wave scattering by two strips is presented. An infinite number of multiply scattered fields between the two strips is included in the solution. The solution is given for the general case of any orientation of the two strips and an arbitrary separation between them.In addition to the exact solution, a new asymptotic technique is employed for an approximate solution of the problem. The technique is based on the idea used by Karp and Russek for solving scattering by a wide slit. Results for the echo width pattern of two strips with different orientations using both exact and approximate techniques are compared with data based on a numerical technique for solving the same problem. An excellent agreement is found between the results based on the analytical and numerical solutions for a wide separation between the strips. The only restriction on the approximate technique is that the ratio between either strip width and the separation between the centers of the strips must be much greater than unity.
