This paper proposes a novel probabilistic framework for the design of probabilistic message passing mechanism for complex and large dynamical systems that are operating and governing under a decentralized way. The proposed framework considers the evaluation of probabilistic messages that can be passed between mutually interacting quasi-independent subsystems that will not be restricted by the assumption of homogeneity or conformability of the subsystems components. The proposed message passing scheme is based on the evaluation of the marginal density functions of the states that need to be passed from one subsystem to another. An additional contribution is the development of stochastic controllability analysis of the controlled subsystems that constitute a complex system. To facilitate the understanding and the analytical analysis of the proposed message passing mechanism and the controllability analysis, theoretical developments are demonstrated on linear stochastic Gaussian systems.

Abstract A decentralized control law is called autonomous if the resulting closed-loop interconnected system is connectively stable, that is, the system remains stable despite structural perturbations whereby subsystems are disconnected and again connected in an unpredictable way during operation. The objective of the paper is to propose an LMI scheme for design of autonomous decentralized controllers and observers for output control of complex systems. An interesting feature of the proposed observer-based controllers is that they do not impose any communication overhead since only the locally available output information is required.

Complex systems nowadays are usually supported by previously developed or inherited application systems, which have been developed on the basis of business functions standard model. Such application systems cover particular business fields, however, since they have been developed in an independent and uncoordinated way, there are modest possibilities of interacted automated data exchange because of heterogeneous data. Because of increasing data exchange needs, enforcement of development and upgrade of programmatic procedures is required. In this connection it is necessary to find ways and means to integrate all existing application systems in given circumstances and render possible exchange and usage of all needed data in a reliable and consistent way. The problem can be solved in different ways. Asynchronous message-passing and inter-application communication software appliance imply commencement of automated data exchange among existing organizations application systems, providing for full scale control and management of mutually exchangeable data, internally as well as externally. In this connection contributing model of the running application systems integrated by means of Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) of the complex system has been created.
