Abstract.The fire smoke is one of the most important factors for the fire temperature field. Once the fire smoke has been exhausted effectively, the fire temperature will be reduced and the fire-resistance performance of steel structures may be improved as well. However, the research on the fire temperature in the space structures is almost bold, which could lead to the theoretical analysis result on fire temperature is quite different from the real condition. Accordingly, the air temperature condition on fire for large-space structures has been analyzed. Taken into account smoke ventilation, the empirical formula for air temperature in large space structure under fire has been modified.

Spirally folded hexagonal membrane structures with inflatable tubes and connective cable networks are presented aiming to establish possible construction scenarios of future large space structure systems over hundreds meters scale and corresponding structures based on the hierarchical modular structure concept using deployable membrane modules. Laboratory scale hand-made conceptual models are manufactured, and their deployment experiments are carried out to show their applicability to the hierarchical modular structures systems.

Today large space structures are in focus of attention of engineers and designers of rocket and space equipment. In ground-based experiments, it is not always possible to carry out complex tests of large space structure functionality. Therefore, the development of mathematical models describing properly the transformable structure dynamics when they opened from the densely packed transport state to the operating position in the orbit becomes very important. To determine the stress-strain state of the frame elements when it is unfolding the shape of the framework is taken at the moments when relative velocities of the adjacent sections are maximal. Supposed, that at these moments the frame elements are getting on the stops limiting their relative angular displacements, and the structure behaves as an elastic rod with specified characteristics. Numerical analysis of the stress-strain state in the framework is carried out by means of a finite element model. Therefore, the represented mathematical model can be effectively used to predict the functional suitability of such transformable space structures already on the early stages of their development.

Pre-stressed steel structures with large space are widely used in stadium, exhibition hall, theater and other buildings today. In order to study the fire-resistance behavior of suspended steel lattice shell of a stadium, the method of performance-based fire resistance design is used. First of all, the stadium physical model is established and the software FDS is used to determine the heating curves of the measuring points of the large space structure for two fire scenes. Compared with international standards heating curve, the heating curves of the large space structure obtained here has characteristic of local high-temperature. The finite element software MSC.MARC is further used to simulate the fire behavior of the pre-stressed steel structure with large space, in which the fire scene with 10MW design power of fire source and 30 minutes duration of fire are considered and two loading ways that overall non-uniform temperature field loading and the local high temperature components loading are accepted. The results show that the pre-stressed steel structure with large space has good fire resistance behavior, and the overall failure will not take place for the fire scene suggested here during 30 minutes duration of fire.

Vibration suppression of a large space structure is achieved by switching between different actuators in order to optimize control performance and to reduce energy consumption. The theoretical properties of the proposed control strategy are reported together with some experimental results.
