The development of utilization of a dynamic simulation model for long-range planning of physical distribution systems is described in this article. LREPS, or Long-range Environmental Planning Simulator, incorporates a number of unique features not found together in other simulation models. The author reviews existing physical distribution planning models and establishes the LREPS research objectives. The LREPS model is described and attention is directed to planning applications.
