Thin film sensor has the advantages of small size and low cost, which has become a research hotspot in recent years. A measurement system of passive optical fiber DC current sensor based on the thin film sensors is designed in this article. Designs of electric-heating converter, heating-light converter and low-voltage measurement display system are introduced in detail. Experimental results indicate that the general linear correlation between the time constant of fluorescent lifetime and the voltage across the thin film resistor. The feasibility of measurement system is verified via the results of the experiment.

This paper presents an experimentally verified approach to deriving switching arc energy limitations for low-voltage (LV) circuit breakers (CBs). Air-insulated contactors equipped with additional vacuum-insulated (VI) arcing contacts were tested for AC and DC current interruption efficiency, respectively. In the study, the contact arrangements of reed relay VI contact switches of low current breaking capacity combined with air-insulated contactors were examined. Tests were performed on selected LV CBs inductively loaded for LV power network rated voltages. A comparative analysis of the arc energy resulting from various arc time durations recorded during the switching-off operation was performed. Using a variety of either basic CB air-insulated contact systems or combined contact systems, a practical assessment of the proposed idea for enhancing the arc quenching efficiency was undertaken. As a result of the implementation of the proposed idea, the arc burning duration time was indicated as being hundreds of times shorter. In most cases, a complete arc reduction was achieved. Moreover, the resulting arc energy dissipation during the breaking operation was substantially minimized. Consequently, a significant increase in the total current breaking capacity of the tested CBs was achieved.

In order to reveal the commutation failure process and the reason for DC differential protection (87DCM) unwanted action of Yunnan-Guangdong UHVDC in 9.12th 2012, and to lessen the unnecessary outage and guarantee a safe and stable operation, the 9.12 outage is deeply studied, including commutation failure phenomena and equivalent circuit analysis, high voltage DC current, low voltage DC current and their differential current analysis and reason for 87DCM unwanted action, and the final conclusions come out that: (1) 9.12 commutation failure includes V1 failing to communicate to V3 of Y bridge and V2 failing to communicate to V4 of D bridge; (2) during commutation failure process, high voltage DC current and low voltage DC current all raise rapidly and both contain DC component, AC component and no-circle rising component, and theoretically high voltage DC current equals to low voltage DC current; (3) failure in low pass filter circuit of pole 1 low voltage CT leads to measuring differential current between high voltage and low voltage DC current, and finally leads to unwanted action of 87DCM.
