This paper presents a comparative study of the application of Thyristor versus IGBT in AC-DC controlled power converter. Both simulation and practical experiment have been carried out to test the relationship between the average output voltage (Vdc) with firing angle (α, for Thyristor) and triggering pulse width (, for IGBT). Also the total harmonic distortion (THD) has been observed in both the cases. It is observed that IGBT based power converter introduces more harmonics in the system, in spite of more symmetrical output voltage wave shape.

This paper presents the effect of total harmonic distortion (THD) in power factor correction (PFC) at non-linear load. This study focuses on the relationship between THD and PFC. This is beacuse, the power factor affects THD. This occurs in power system as we have variety of loads, i. e linear load or non-linear load. The variety of loads will influence the sinusoidal waveform, which comes out from harmonic distortion. Thus, based on this study, we can compare the effective method in improving the power factor as it will not disturb the performance of THD. The focus of study is on the single phase load, where the voltage restriction is 240 V.  The analysis will  only focus on the consumer, which depends on the variety of non-linear load. Besides, the parameters for analysis are based on the percentage of THD and the value of power factor. The instrument for measuring the parameter is based on power factor correction device or technique. On the other hand, the method that was used for this study is based on simulation which incorporated the Multisim software. At the end of ths study, we can choose the most effective method that can be used to improve the power factor correction without disturbing the THD.

Lock-in amplification using ac modulation and second-harmonic detection is routinely employed in such techniques as ac polarography, ac voltammetry, and inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy (IETS). Properties of the modulation source are shown in the present IET studies to limit the obtainable signal-to-noise ratio of a spectrum. A single inelastic electron tunneling junction is used to demonstrate the effect of various commercial modulation sources on the IET spectrum of benzoic acid on alumina. With all other parameters being held constant, the signal-to-noise ratio of the IET spectrum is found to be inversely correlated with the total harmonic distortion of the modulation source.

In this paper, an enhanced H-Bridge multilevel inverter is proposed with the sinusoidal tracking algorithm. The proposed multilevel inverter (MLI) consists of two half H-Bridges cascaded with two unidirectional switches, n direct current (DC) sources, and (n-2) number of bi-directional switches together to form an enhanced H-Bridge (EHB) multilevel inverter. The output voltage levels of an EHB MLI depends on the number of DC sources, the number of bi-directional switches, and the relationship between the magnitude of left-side and right-side DC sources. With the addition of DC sources, bidirectional switches, and employing the sinusoidal tracking algorithm, the performance of the inverter is enhanced with features like an increased number of levels and a reduction in the total harmonic distortion and switching losses. In all the modes of operation of the proposed inverter, only three switches are “ON”, so that conduction losses are less. The proposed enhanced H-Bridge MLI is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink R2017a, and is verified with the experimental result.

Tendons and ligaments are complex multi-scale collageneous structures playing a fundamental role in mouvement. Even if these tissues are extensively studied in the past decades, modeling their non-linear viscoelastic properties is still a tough challenge. In order to reveal the relationship between the multi-scale structures and the macroscopic mechanical properties, we used atomic force microscopy (AFM) and second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy to study unstreateched microtome slices of rabbit Achilles tendons, and an Adamel Lomargy DY.22 tensile test machine to study the dynamic properties of these tissues. Based on our data, a Zener model was used to describe the dynamic loading and unloading cycles.
